Hi! Welcome to the new reply-link newsletter, which I made because the ol' list on the reply-link talk page was unwieldy. In case you haven't been following development recently, I've sent out some new updates that should let it reply basically anywhere, even in transcluded pages or under hatted discussions (two locations people have been wanting for a while). Reliability has also gone way up, as I've implemented a couple of sanity checks that help prevent the script from responding to the wrong message. Unfortunately, that means the script fails a bit more often. Anyway, try it out if you haven't done so in a while, and let me know what you think! I always appreciate feature requests or bug reports on the talk page. Happy replying! (Signup list/Unsubscribe) MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:23, 30 January 2019 (UTC)

DYK HMS P222

[edit]

I've just reviewed Template:Did you know nominations/HMS P222. I think the hook is more interesting than the usual! Now, after finishing the review I spotted the hook material in the article is not cited at the end of its sentence: WP:DYKRULES #3b. The cite needs duplicating one sentence higher up. (I got told off for this once which is how I know!). Best wishes. Thincat (talk) 14:39, 3 February 2019 (UTC)

I've cropped the image here at File:HMS P222 (cropped).jpg. Do you think it is any better? Thincat (talk) 14:50, 3 February 2019 (UTC)

Guideline and policy news

  • A request for comment is currently open to reevaluate the activity requirements for administrators.
  • Administrators who are blocked have the technical ability to block the administrator who blocked their own account. A recent request for comment has amended the blocking policy to clarify that this ability should only be used in exceptional circumstances, such as account compromises, where there is a clear and immediate need.
  • A request for comment closed with a consensus in favor of deprecating The Sun as a permissible reference, and creating an edit filter to warn users who attempt to cite it.

Technical news

  • A discussion regarding an overhaul of the format and appearance of Wikipedia:Requests for page protection is in progress (permalink). The proposed changes will make it easier to create requests for those who are not using Twinkle. The workflow for administrators at this venue will largely be unchanged. Additionally, there are plans to archive requests similar to how it is done at WP:PERM, where historical records are kept so that prior requests can more easily be searched for.

Miscellaneous

  • Voting in the 2019 Steward elections will begin on 08 February 2019, 14:00 (UTC) and end on 28 February 2019, 13:59 (UTC). The confirmation process of current stewards is being held in parallel. You can automatically check your eligibility to vote.
  • A new IRC bot is available that allows you to subscribe to notifications when specific filters are tripped. This requires that your IRC handle be identified.

You might want to consider Jürgen Rohwer's Axis submarine successes of World War Two: German, Italian, and Japanese submarine successes, 1939-1945 by Greenhill Books. ISBN 978-1557500298. It will help you on verifying any given submarine's success. Dapi89 (talk) 12:07, 6 February 2019 (UTC)

Sportsman ACR

[edit]

I've just addressed Australian Rupert's comments, but I'm afraid that I don't know of any other source that covers her activities to the level of detail provided by uboat.net. Unless you want to rewrite the entire career section to eliminate uboat.net references, I suggest withdrawing the nomination and contenting yourself with staying at GA for all of your British submarine articles.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 19:37, 10 February 2019 (UTC)

DYK for HMS P222

[edit]

On 20 February 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article HMS P222, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the British submarine HMS P222 was ordered to escort an Allied convoy to Malta on the surface, with the intent that it would be spotted by enemy aircraft? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/HMS P222. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, HMS P222), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

DYK for HMS Sickle

[edit]

On 24 February 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article HMS Sickle, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that after sailors from HMS Sickle (pictured) boarded a small enemy ship, they brought 1,000 oranges and lemons from the ship's cargo back to their submarine? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/HMS Sickle. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, HMS Sickle), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. — Maile (talk) 00:01, 24 February 2019 (UTC)

L293D, you recently moved this nomination from the main section of the DYK Approved page to the special occasions section. There are two issues with the move: first, special occasions are supposed to be for up to six weeks out from the nomination date, and this was nearly twelve, and second, the nominator is supposed to request that the nomination be considered eligible to be a special occasion, which is usually granted (though sometimes not, as sometimes requests are tenuous or not at all special/significant), and a reviewer does the move.

In this case, since it is so far in the future, I've moved the nomination back to the Approved section. However, there is quite a bit of flexibility in DYK, and if you post a request at WT:DYK, there's a decent chance that the request will be granted. Best of luck.
