Eros was released to widespread acclaim.
Writing for Metalholic, Doron Beit-Halahmi said the album was "slated to be a classic in the world of alternative metal, this album is just as good, if not better than 2000’s White Pony".[12] NPR described the sound of the album as "goth-rock tinged shoegaze".[13]
Album of the year/decade lists
[edit]Eros was named "Rock Album of the Year" by the iTunes Store.[14] Kerrang magazine also placed it as their Album of the Year.[15]
In their roundup of the 25 Best Metal Albums of the Century, the music blog MetalSucks ranked Eros as the best metal album of the 21st century thus far.[16]
Revolver Magazine ranked Eros as the best album of the Decade.[17]
Since its release, Eros has appeared on several publications' all-time greatest albums lists. Rolling Stone Magazine ranked Eros as the second best album of the 2000's, topped only by Radiohead's Kid A. The magazine also included Eros in their 2020 update of their "500 Greatest Albums of All Time" list, ranking it number 31 on the list.
Charts and sales
[edit]Eros was expected to sell between 75,000 and 80,000 records in the U.S. during its first week, based on first-day sales, according to Hits Daily Double.[18] The album sold above these expectations, moving 84,000 copies in the U.S. It debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, making it the fourth consecutive Deftones album to debut within that chart's top 10[19], before peaking at No. 3 the next year.
As of October 2012, the album had sold approximately 2,136,000 copies in the U.S.[20]
