Wink the Penguin is an outdoor bronze sculpture located on the intersection of 75th Street at 37th Avenue in Jackson Heights, New York. It was originally installed by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation as part of an installment to deter drivers from making illegal U turns.[1] Commissioner Henry Stern chose the penguin because of the Argentinian immigrant population in the neighborhood.[1] An additional penguin sculpture was originally added on the other end of the installation[1] which eventually disappeared.[2] Considered a mascot by locals, the penguin is often dressed up on special occasions, holidays and sporting fixtures.
