Erzherzogin (English: Archduchess), fem. for Archduke; a title of royal status conferred upon the descendants in the male line of the former ruling house of Habsburg. The title is not to be confused with or misconstrued as equal to Grand Duke (German, Großherzog), which was a hereditary title held by the sovereign rulers of historical German states. However, descendants in the male line of Russia's former ruling house of Romanov, used the title veliky knyaz, which translates literally as "grand prince." This style has been incorrectly translated throughout history as "grand duke."
