Magdalena (Magda) Eggens, born Magdolna Frid 1924 in Kisvárda in Hungary, death 2016, was a Swedish writer and holocaust survivor.
Biography
[edit]Magda Eggens was daughter to Sandor Eggens and Flora Frid, she grew up in Hungary together with her two younger sisters, Eva and Judith.
First in March 1944 coated Hungary seriously into the ongoing World War II, when Nazi-Germany occupied Hungary and immediately introduced National Socialism notorious antisemitism. This effected Eggers family very hard, her father lost his job, her grandparents courtyard got confiscated. On April 16th 1944 was all the family taken away to the ghetto that was located in the outskirts of the city. Each family member was forced to wear a Yellow Badge that symbolized the Star of David.
Shortly thereafter in the beginning of May was all the family forced to the railway station to be transported to Auschwitz in cattle trucks. When the family arrived to Auschwitz men and women where separated, and Eggens saw for the last time her father, whom later died in another concentration camp. The women got five and five go to Josef Mengele that after a fast assessment decided that Eggens heavily pregnant mother and her little sister Judith of 13 years, immediately could die in the gas chambers. Magda of 20 years and her little sister Eva of 18 years, where assessed as good work force. In September 1944, Eggens and her sister Eva got transferred to a working camp only for women in Weisswasser and thereafter further to another working camp, finally in Neuengamme outside Hamburg.
