The 2024 edition of the Calgary International Film Festival , the 25th edition in the event's history, will be held from September 19 to September 19, 2023 in Calgary , Alberta , Canada .[ 1]
With the closure and demolition of the Eau Claire Market , whose six-screen multiplex theatre had been one of the festival's key venues, earlier in 2024 the festival announced a multi-stage plan to cope with the loss of movie screens in downtown Calgary.[ 2] Films will screen at the Globe Cinema, the Plaza Theatre and the Contemporary Calgary art gallery, as well as the Chinook Theatre; however, the festival will acquire six portable movie projectors over the next three years, so that the festival can start screening films in other venues besides the few remaining downtown movie theatres.[ 3]
The first programming announcement was released on August 1, with further announcements expected toward the end of the month.[ 4]
