GNU/Linux

[edit]

Hi. While updating this template, I've noticed it conflicts with {{GNU}}, of whom people would not be happy to notice they are being made part of Linux and not GNU/Linux. Do you mind renaming it to: {{GNU/Linux people}} and changing the title to: "Notable contributors to the GNU/Linux operating system"? Regards, Comte0 (talk) 14:49, 17 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I am not seeing any conflict with {{GNU}}, although there is some overlap, which is okay. The use of GNU/Linux in this context would conflict with a longstanding consensus that operating systems that use the Linux kernel are called "Linux" on Wikipedia, as per WP:COMMONNAME and also MOS:LINUX. "GNU/Linux" is considered a minority POV term used by the FSF and its supporters. On Wikipedia the term is only used to describe distros when the distro itself is called "GNU/Linux", such as "Debian GNU/Linux", and then only when referring to the distro itself. - Ahunt (talk) 16:07, 17 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the answer, I was not aware of the manual of style. Regards, Comte0 (talk) 18:15, 17 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
