Template:Genuki/doc

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

{{Genuki}} is an external link template used for settlements in the United Kingdom. It provides a standardized link to the relevant parish entry at GENUKI.

Usage

[edit]
{{Genuki|county=|parishname}}

or

{{Genuki|county=|parishname|parish-url}}

or

{{Genuki|county=|parishname||placename}}

or

{{Genuki|county=|parishname|parish-url|placename}}

Parameters

[edit]

The template takes one named parameter, and between 1 and 3 positional parameters:

county (required)
The county in which the parish is found. The full list can be found here. County codes are not case-sensitive. The country code is added automatically (see note below).
parishname (required)
An unnamed parameter, this is the name of the parish. A decision was made not to use {{PAGENAME}} because the page might be moved, perhaps for disambiguation, at a later stage.
parish-url (optional)
An unnamed parameter, this is the URL version of the parish name, if different, which is used on Genuki. For example, "Kirkella" must be used in the URL because "Kirk Ella" has a space in it. If this is the same as parishname, leave it blank.
placename (optional)
An unnamed parameter, this is the name of the settlement if it is not the name of the parish itself. It will generate the additional note "(placename is in this parish)".

URL Note

[edit]

The URL that GENUKI uses looks like this: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/BDF/Cranfield

The three-letter code (BDF in the example above) is the county code. Yorkshire parishes have two sets of letters; ignore the YKS (see "Kirk Ella" below).

Examples

[edit]
Template Result
