Soutce? Only Wikipedia, where this article has a heading 'Marquis of Douglas' and the page Earl of Angus where he is referred to as 'William Douglas, 1st Marquis of Douglas (1590–1660)'Shipsview (talk) 11:00, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Although there is a tradition of spelling the title Marquis in Scotland, Marquess is now the norm.Shipsview (talk) 09:11, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Do we have a source that says that? Does it say to apply the new spelling retroactively? LeadSongDog come howl! 13:25, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I know, there is no source that says that we spell it Marquess, but all current Marquesses seem to do so. Wikipedia seems to adopt Marquess for Graham, Buchanan, Huntly, Douglas and Clydesdale. consistency seems to be the right way to go. Shipsview (talk) 20:56, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
