[edit]A trade association, also known as an industry trade group, business association, sector association or industry body, is an organization founded and funded by businesses that operate in a specific industry. An industry trade association participates in public relations activities such as advertising, education, publishing, lobbying, and political donations, but its focus is collaboration between companies. Associations may offer other services, such as producing conferences, setting industry standards, holding networking or charitable events, or offering classes or educational materials. Many associations are non-profit organizations governed by bylaws and directed by officers who are also members. (FEC: Solicitable Class of Trade Association). In the United States, direct contributions by PACs to candidates are required to be disclosed to the Federal Election Commission or state and local election overseers; are considered public information; and have registration requirements for lobbyists (FEC: Lobbyist)

Comment
[edit]The term "trade association" is used quite frequently in Washington -- I'm not sure it should be identified as a uniquely British phrase. Greyfedora 07:10, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
Is it just me or is the wording on this page totally biased? Erpava 15:45, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
Name
[edit]Article should be written to view international audience in mind. Industry trade group mostly used as Trade association,
In UAE: It often called as Trade association and sometimes Business group established under the umbrella or joint venture with local Chamber of Commerce.
In Pakiistan and India: Trade Association
In Saudi Arabia: As Trade Committee--116.71.37.183 (talk) 11:43, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
It seems to me that the accepted term is actually 'trade association' and not 'industry trade group'. The page 'industry trade group' should redirect to 'trade association' and not the other way around. Google returns 308,000 results for "industry trade group" and 3,600,000 for "trade association". --Kuteni (talk) 11:05, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
Listings of Organizations
[edit]The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, currently listed for East Asia, does not belong here. The organization is not specific to any trade or industry. If listed at all, it belongs to the Chambers of Commerce. They are also using the alternative title China International Chamber of Commerce. Shenhemu (talk) 03:47, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

Industry trade group → Trade association — 'Trade association' seems to be the common term, read the comments. Attention of a native English speaker would be helpful... --Kuteni (talk) 11:25, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
