PICTURE
[edit]Guys that picture is from the wrong lecture! It's from his "Time Management" lecture!! It currently says in the caption "Pausch talks about his experiences during the lecture". This is WRONG information, I changed it (bluntly) to "Pausch talks about Time Management during another lecture". I guess that if you really want to keep this picture you can edit the caption to something more vague without mentioning what he's talking about or what lecture the picture was taken from. --86.129.75.249 (talk) 18:07, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, this just caused me some trouble. I wish your note hadn't been removed. I came across the website and saw the picture, which reminded me of the phrase "doing things right versus doing the right things" and I wanted to hear his take on it, especially as it related to his "Last Lecture". While I'm sure it's a great talk, I'm glad I didn't listen through it only to find out the information I was after wasn't even there (instead I searched the transcript and slides of the talk found on Prof. Pausch's website and thought I was crazy since I couldn't find the quote). The best solution would be to change the picture - done. Ryancamp1 (talk) 5:47, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

GA on Hold
[edit]This article needs some changes made to it before it can be passed as a good article: -
- The referencing section needs some restructuring. The talk and the book Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams are referenced multiple times. It is usual for the referece section to thus be split into two sections, notes where all the information from the footnotes will appear and then a list of references that are refered to multiple times in the footnotes, in this instance the talk and the book. You can use something like {{cite web}} that will provide more information for the transcript of the talk. See Wikipedia:References#Footnote system and the specific subsection shortened footnotes for more information.
- The background section calls Pausch's pancreaticoduodenectomy "somewhat unsuccesful", this needs clarifying. Was it just unsuccesful, if so say so. Did it work but not as well as hoped, if so say this. Somewhat unsuccesful is a bit ambiguous to the true meaning.
- Under WP:Fair Use, the use of two copyrighted images of Pausch given his talk do not qualify, as only one image is needed to illustrate this. I understand the other image is trying to convey a specific part of Pausch's talk but I think it fails to do so. Thus only one of these images can be used under fair use. I suggest that the first image of the article be the free use image of Randy Pausch that can be found on his article and then one of the images of Pausch's talk be kept under the talk section. The image of Pausch on the Opera Winfrey show also does not qualify under fair use, as the criteria state that the image must "significantly increase readers' understanding of the topic" and there is nothing to suggest this image is even taken from the Opera Winfrey show. An image of the book cover in this section maybe more acceptable (though I know some editors who would argue otherwise) or an image of Pausch with Opera or with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
This article will be watched for 7 days and if no improvement is made after that time maybe failed without notice. Apologies if the changes are made before Monday, I am going away tomorro til then and may not have regular access to the internet but will endever to log on regulary to answer any questions. Good Luck! Million_Moments (talk) 12:08, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

GA Pass
[edit]Congratulations, this article has now passed the good article nominations process! For future improvements, I would recommend an expansion of the post-speech section. For example, is there anymore relavant detail from the interviews on the Opera Winfrey show or the follow up ABC show? What reason was given for naming him person of the week? If avalible, some sort of comment about how Paush felt about all the media attention would also be an excellent addition. I think, when it becomes avalible, the best illustration for this section would actually be an image of Pausch in the Star Trek movie. An image of the pedestrian bridge mentioned in the conclusion section would also help illustrate the article.
Well done and keep up the good work! Million_Moments (talk) 21:42, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
