Poverty in Indigenous Australia

[edit]

The section headed 'Poverty in Indigenous Australia' talks about Indigenous Australians living in fourth world squaller. While it is true that many minority groups have a lower mean income than White Australians, the particular 'fourth world' Indigeonous Australians mentioned are likely to be those who choose to live on the land according to their traditional tribal lifestyles. Because this section makes no mention of this, I think it gives out the connotation to outsiders that it is due to racial segregation . Indigenous Australians are not discriminated against when it comes to unemployment benefits or educational opportunities in modern day Australia. --203.122.208.198 (talk) 13:16, 30 June 2011 (UTC) bart is awesome — Preceding unsigned comment added by 103.24.208.240 (talk) 02:11, 5 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Of course there is huge poverty in indigenous communities, and that is partly due to segregationist beliefs. Many people here think we "didn't finish the war" and blame the massive indigenous funding rort on their own poverty. I blame divisive government policies, if you have a special box to tick then you aren't part of the "true" local community. When I don't tick the boong box I get better services and more job offers. 2001:8003:1605:400:54D6:1E1F:F7E:E38A (talk) 05:44, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

History of Poverty

[edit]

regarding the history of poverty, is there a need to have a sub heading titled "post war" when it is the only sub heading? I would say it could be removed. --RichardMills65 (talk) 06:01, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I suspect that other sub-sections are needed. We can add other sub-section headings and put {{expand-section}} in the section body to mark it as empty but begging for attention. John Vandenberg (chat) 04:25, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Percentage in poverty

[edit]

Australia is not listed on List of countries by percentage of population living in poverty. We have a 2001 statistic listed on this page. Is there a more recent statistic? John Vandenberg (chat) 04:26, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
