Paola Cabezas in 2022
Paola Cabezas in 2022

* ALT2 ... that the same day Paola Cabezas's niece wanted to imitate Cabezas and straighten her own "ugly hair", the Ecuadorian politician (pictured) cut her hair and stopped straightening her own?*

  • ALT3 ... that after Paola Cabezas's niece wanted to imitate the Ecuadorian politician (pictured) and straighten her "ugly hair" , Cabezas stopped straightening her own?

Alt4... that Ecuadorian politician Paola Cabezas (pictured), stopped straightening her own hair after her niece asked her how to fix her "ugly hair"?

General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
Image: Image is freely licensed, used in the article, and clear at 100px.
QPQ: Done.

Overall: long and new enough, I am not sure if the pic is free enough for the main page, before I approve it I'd be glad for a second opinion by someone else, could also be an Admin like you. Hook is also interesting, but I'd like to give a day or two more time for anyone who has an even better idea.Paradise Chronicle (talk) 00:19, 24 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Victuallers what do you think about the other ALTs? You can also add one more and then I'd strike mine again. Else, another reviewer might be needed.Paradise Chronicle (talk) 18:13, 27 May 2022 (UTC) Paradise Chronicle (talk) 07:28, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Alt1 - I changed a word; Alt2 - tricky phrasing, its not clear that the "Equadorian politician" is her IMO and thats a problem too with the main hook so I changed that; Alt3 has a similar problem. I created alt4
Better? Victuallers (talk) 22:55, 27 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
All good. Interesting article and hook. I moved ALT4 for to the others. I leave it at the discretion of the prepper which hook to choose.Paradise Chronicle (talk) 07:28, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Victuallers The hook was pulled by Amakuru. I'm not sure why. SL93 (talk) 00:22, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
SL93 the stated reason given by Amakuru was, "Swap picture hook between Q1 and P1 to give time for cppyediting of hook text". I'm not sure what the issue was either. --evrik (talk) 14:40, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • ALT5 ... that when the niece of Ecuadorian politician Paola Cabezas (pictured) asked about her own "ugly hair", she realized that she needed to stop straightening her own?
FYI, I copyedited the hook when putting it in the queue. --evrik (talk) 14:43, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If only we had the skills of these people to improve articles before they go on the to main page and have to be pulled in a highly subjective and what appears to be a pretentious way. Victuallers (talk) 18:52, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It appears that there was a complaint at WP:Errors about this hook; Amakuru's comment (see Next DYK section) was the hook was going to move to Prep 1 so adjustments could be made, but the move doesn't appear to have been done. Perhaps Amakuru can suggest how to improve the hook, since the ones at Errors didn't seem to do the trick. BlueMoonset (talk) 22:38, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
BlueMoonset I moved it out of prep 1 because no query was made on the DYK talk page about it and I didn't want this to be re-promoted to a queue on accident with no fixes. I also moved it out of prep 1 because the last time Amakuru moved a hook to prep from a queue without raising a query, that prep became the next set to be moved to queue. SL93 (talk) 22:53, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) I did move it to Prep 1 following the issue raised at ERRORS,in the hope of tweaking the wording a bit before go-live, but it was then later removed from the queues entirely, for reasons that are unclear to me. This isn't a major deal, I just found the juxtaposition of she and her and her own (x2) somewhat confusing. One idea might be to deal with the Carrao side first before mentioning the niece, so that at least the first "her" is unambiguous, and jusr use "her own" the one time to establish the niece. For example:
  • Alt6 ... that Ecuadorian politician Paola Cabezas (pictured) realized she needed to stop straightening her hair when her niece described her own unstraightened hair as "ugly"?

Thanks  — Amakuru (talk) 23:05, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Good for me as well. Paradise Chronicle (talk) 23:13, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • (edit conflict) Amakuru, I apologize; I didn't read the history correctly, and missed your insertion of the hook into Prep 1. (And thus didn't look for SL93's subsequent removal.)
  • New version of hook, which I've labeled ALT6, is approved; I've struck the previous iterations. It might be a nice idea to make a similar edit to the article, which has similar "she"/"her" clarity issues. (Note to Paradise Chronicle: if you don't "subst" the icons, the bot won't pick up on them, so I've kept the tick that had been in this edit before it conflicted with your own. Please don't add comments below the "Please do not write below this line" line; it causes problems. I've moved your comment up accordingly.) BlueMoonset (talk) 23:24, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Amakuru I explained my reasoning above. The last time this happened, I moved it out of prep with only a few hours to spare until that prep was moved to queue. I was also unsure of what the issue was until Evrik pointed it out to me above - just today. By the way, the earlier nomination that I pulled from prep is still open. SL93 (talk) 23:32, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

FWIW, Template:Did you know/Preparation area 3 currently has another female Ecuadorian politician in the photo slot. I like the photo, I think we should wait a week or tow to run this. --evrik (talk) 23:54, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Both hooks are from Victuallers, so I'm curious about their opinion. SL93 (talk) 23:56, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the thought @SL93: but I don't feel involved in this meta discussion/approval process. When you/those guys start redoing, a redone, changed and historically approved hook then I'm surprised anyone is interested in the changes. I don't check them because I, like the original people involved, have moved on to improving the encyclopedia. I try and avoid looking at whats happening (it isn't inspiring to nominators IMO). Hooks should be pulled out of the queue because they are wrong and not because someone thinks they could phrase it better and no one is bothered enough to revert their fiddling. Is the phrasing better? No one checks and by that point, few care. Victuallers (talk) 08:52, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

SandyGeorgia (Talk) 13:23, 28 June 2022 (UTC) @Amakuru and BlueMoonset: what would you like to do with this? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 13:25, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@SandyGeorgia: Oh wow, as if we haven't had enough issues with this hook already! It sounds like it needs to be pulled, but unfortunately I'm editing from mobile at the moment as I'm not at home, so this will be a little tricky. If there's consensus to pull and nobody else does (and I'll defer to your expertise on this top), I'll do so in a bit.  — Amakuru (talk) 13:35, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure it's bad enough to be pulled; if I thought that, I would have blanked the page and placed a copyright tag. Some re-phrasing should fix it, but I haven't checked all sources and don't have time. Mostly, another solid reminder that foreign language checks should be done, as verbatim translations are copyvio. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 13:36, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
SandyGeorgia, it appears that all but the last example were added by Paradise Chronicle in their edits on 23 May 2022; the final one was from the article's original building by Victuallers. Would it be enough to remove the known problematic material for now? BlueMoonset (talk) 15:16, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Victuallers is claiming on their talk page that the sources are "open source";[1] I'm not seeing that, so am awaiting a response there. Ideally, someone would just rephrase. I don't think this is egregious or urgent; just a heads up. I am watching, and will address what I've found as needed, depending on further responses ... SandyGeorgia (Talk) 15:22, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @SandyGeorgia:, Amakuru is so keen to "help". I'm curious as to which tool you are using as the source is nearly all the es:wiki and that may contain unseen copyvio which would be tricky to spot. I will rephrase stuff you have identified first. Victuallers (talk) 15:25, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I am accessing the actual sources and reading them (I speak fluent Spanish, and keep an eye out for Spanish-language DYKs) ... I don't trust anything on another Wiki, particularly es.wiki, where I often find poor sourcing and copyvio ... Thanks for fixing these! SandyGeorgia (Talk) 15:38, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the help @SandyGeorgia: (and resisting other helpful offers), I don't trust other wikis either. I can check that the article does have sources, but spotting close paraphrasing is tricky. However, I think, I nearly always rephrase. Cheers. Victuallers (talk) 16:08, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
All good here, I'm unwatching now, thanks all, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 16:09, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Other problems

[edit]

Where sources clearly state information was "according to her linkedin", the article has no such attribution. Similarly, when she responds to interview questions (started her radio career at 15), there is no attribution that this is according to her. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 13:23, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Personal Life. What Tweet?

[edit]

This section talks about 'The tweet' as if the user knows what tweet we are referring to. Can anyone fix this section by adding some context? JeffUK (talk) 10:36, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Jeff by all means have a look for it. I wasnt keen to name the detail of it as this was only alleged misbehavior so I would not want to name names or do any original research on its interpretation. So beware. Victuallers (talk) 15:23, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It should either be included or not. You suggest there is a WP:BLP concern, so I'm removing it as sources are not adequate to support the text. The problem with this sort of allegation is that , for some reason, newspapers never choose to repeat the alleged offensive images or wording, so the reader is left to trust the paper's editorial opinion on whether or not something was offensive. He's going through legal proceedings so we can wait for the results. JeffUK (talk) 18:53, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
