Hello: I am going to spend some time working on this trail page, as it is my personal favorite hiking trail. I made a small change and linked Lake Sakakawea State Park to Lake Sakakawea, as that article has a Lake Sakakawea State Park section. --Sowsearsoup15:38, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am challanging the total milage of this trail. It is around 2800 miles from New York City to Los Angeles, but yet this trails total milage is stated to be 4600 miles. Based on the map provided in the article, ive performed measurements that indicate the trail to be less than 3000 miles ! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gizziiusa (talk • contribs) 18:43, 7 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The North Country Trail takes a fairly meandering route and does not take the most direct route between any two points. As with all the National Scenic Trails, trail length also changes yearly based on closures and reroutes. The estimation of distance in the article is based on published information from the National Park Service. [1]
Through its history, this article has been a poorly-developed and uncoordinated mess, dependent on lazy bullet lists and weblinks to things that are much less noteworthy than the trail itself. Various volunteer editors have added snippets over the years but clearly without a higher vision for an article that is fully informative, or even readable from beginning to end. The article's quality has been nowhere close to that seen for Appalachian Trail, Continental Divide Trail, or Pacific Crest Trail, and by the way all of those are considerably shorter than the NCT. I am going to attempt a significant overhaul of this article as of this date, and will add an "Under Construction" tag at the top until it's done. See also the brand new North Country Trail by state. Thanks. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 15:36, 30 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
