Why "Nicholaos"? And why "Gysis"?

[edit]

Its mostly out of curiosity. The name "Nicholaos" phonetically is different from the name "Nikolaos" which is his name. And even more, "Gysis" is mych more different than what it should be like, which is "Gyzis". I dont really mind about the last name, but "Nicholaos" looks really weird and may also sound funny pronounced by a Greek. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nik ethel (talkcontribs) 17:46, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Note about the name

[edit]

As I am Greek I strongly believe that Nik Ethel is right, "Nickolaos" sounds funny. But the most important fact is the difference between what is the real name and what is the translation of it. If someone checks the article Nickolas will find out that difference I am talking about. In Greek we use "Nikolaos" when the name is translated in English and as far as I can see from the article Nikolaos, where the Greek names are translated that way, this opinion is right. Also in the article Nicholas it is obvious that "Nicholaos" is in fact the English name - version of the Greek "Nikolas". As a conclusion I believe that we should change the name and use "Nikolaos". About the last name also I think that Gyzis is the right one, but only accoarding to phonetical issues of Greek language. Also I have to say that worlwide (in bibliographies and articles) his last name is used both ways... --Thaliapap (talk) 14:58, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nicholaos GysisNikolaos Gyzis — As pointed out above, the correct transliteration of the name would be Nikolaos Gyzis. The current form is a weird hybrid that is used in no language. --Constantine 23:46, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
