Fair use rationale for Image:PosterVelvet 01.jpg

[edit]

Image:PosterVelvet 01.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Who is the star?

[edit]

Today's audiences might think that (as the article says) Elizabeth Taylor was the star. The poster says, "Starring Mickey Rooney, with Donald Crisp, Elizabeth Taylor." Taylor was just beginning her film career. She plays the character who was the heroine of the book, but "bad boy makes good" Rooney was the film's main character and star. This article could use some work. Snezzy (talk) 19:49, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tierney

[edit]

We're told the film was delayed so Gene Tierney could play the lead, but there's no explanation of when or why Tierney was replaced.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Prestonmcconkie (talkcontribs) 11 July 2009‎

Tierney would have been 24 when this was filmed, far too old to play Velvet. This was the same year she appeared in Laura.[EDIT] Sorry, I hadn't yet read the passage this was referencing. I suppose it has since been rewritten to be clearer, as the article now plainly states that Tierney was offered the role in 1939, and left the project when filming was delayed. 12.233.147.42 (talk) 00:01, 10 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
