Is the name for the page okay

[edit]

If someone enters wikipedia and searches for this Michael Taylor, will the name of this article enable them to find his information? Does the name need tweaking? Redirect? I'm not sure how to edit that stuff anyway, hence the question here in case someone wants to lend a hand. ThreeWikiteers (talk) 04:40, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've put an entry on the Michael Taylor disambiguation page that should should help people to find this. As regards the name, we should really go by what sources call him - I note that The Washington Post calls him an "amateur naturalist", but that's probably a bit too general. What do other people call him? Phil Bridger (talk) 19:09, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
My guess is that the typical person who has heard or read about him, would most likely search for him as "Michael Taylor" with some other keyword attached like "redwood" or "redwoods". Taylor is not a climber. So the association is pretty much with redwoods and tallest trees. Exploring, finding and measuring. ThreeWikiteers (talk) 21:47, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I would call him a forest expert or tall trees expert. Forester is inaccurate. In California, "forester" typically means someone who works in the forestry field, usually with a professional forestry license, which he does not have. He is certainly more than a "amateur naturalist" though! 75.109.250.166 (talk) 18:34, 2 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Michael Taylor left a big enough mark on culture. His tree discoveries are not only world records, but provided subjects for author Richard Preston to write about, and trees for scientist Stephen Sillett to climb and reasearch. This provided a surge of publicity which helped Save the Redwoods League and Humboldt State University in regards to funding and support. Taylor is connected to the whole scenerio of redwood preservation, measuring, etc. ThreeWikiteers (talk) 18:38, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Given some weeks, even more good substance can be found for this page. ThreeWikiteers (talk) 18:39, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
