Metacomet and Christianity
[edit]Quote from the article:
"/.../He hated Christianity, and thought it was a horrible religion that would cause him to be an irresponsible leader if he converted to it./.../"
Source please? My understanding is that the Wampanoag tribe were threatened with forcible conversion, which is of course something that wouldn't usually be welcomed with open arms. Jonas Liljeström (talk) 02:03, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
Name
[edit]Isn't Metacomb/Metacomet more commonly referred to as "Metacom"? Every history textbook and encyclopedia entry that I've seen uses that spelling. Even the entry for King Philip's War uses the spelling of "Metacom." Obviously we can retain the alternate spellings, but for clarity's sake, a more standardized spelling should be used throughout this page. This whole page alternates between "Metacomet" and "Metacomb," and only mentions the name "Metacom" once. We should just stick to the usage of "Metacom." Hartnrm (talk) 08:32, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
- how about metamora? Contemporaries of the time referred to him as that as well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.112.24.194 (talk) 08:41, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
Vandalism
[edit]The biography page begins with "Metacomet was the second son of poopy head. He became a chief in 1662 when his brother Wamsutta (or King Alexander) and his father Massasoit died." Obviously the end of the first sentance is vandalism. I infer from the second sentance that his father's name was Massasoit, but I am not familiar with this topic. Would someone who is please vet that and fix it? Cyrissia (talk) 00:06, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
- Fixed. Thank you for bringing this up. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 00:42, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
Terminology
[edit]I suggest you quit using the term, Native Americans when you write about a First Nation for example a section about King Phillips War you made reference , " Native Americans" if you don't know which First Nations you write about then at least research the subject and call them by their true name. Another example is, there were 800 First Nations on this continent before the arrival of the English, Spainish and French. Each First nation were separate from each other and had diffent languages, custom, values, mores and other attributes. So don't lump them all into one catergory. When I talk about the Americans I don't lump them into one catorgory by saying Europeans. Instead, I say for example, Irish-American or German-American, Scottish-American because originally none of theethnic groups every called themselves Europeans, instead they used the country of origin. So, quit the historical inaccuracies and get it right. Thank you!

Alright, who put 'Metanibba' on this page?!?
[edit]I may be an idiot, but I'm 100% sure he was NEVER called that. Somebody please change this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tin Can (talk • contribs) 14:04, 9 February 2018 (UTC)

Cause of death "explosive diarrhea" ??????
[edit]A recent edit changed the cause of death in biography box at top right to "explosive diarrhea" without an obvious credible source. I think Metacomet was killed in battle.Rick Subber (talk) 21:07, 10 October 2019 (UTC)RSubber
- In the cases of obvious vandalism like that, you can just go to the article history and undo the edit. --Ken Gallager (talk) 13:03, 14 October 2019 (UTC)
Education
[edit]I heard that Metacomet was educated at Harvard. If this is so, you are grossly misrepresenting his biography. 162.246.25.234 (talk) 21:35, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
- If you can find a published source that describes his education, please add that information to the article. --Ken Gallager (talk) 14:31, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
- John Sassamon was was a graduate of Harvard College and served as a translator and adviser to Metacomet. Sassamon was a Native convert to Christianity, commonly referred to as a "Praying Indian." David notMD (talk) 21:32, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
