Contested deletion

[edit]

This article should not be speedy deleted as being recently created, having no relevant page history and duplicating an existing English Wikipedia topic, because...

The list is substantially different from the two target articles presented in the speedy nomination:
The List of art media Media involves only materials used in art, not styles
The List of art movements and movements involves the historical periods in art such as Renaissance: it does not involve art styles such as Paper art. Wm335td (talk) 17:38, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Contested deletion

[edit]

This article should not be speedy deleted as being recently created, having no relevant page history and duplicating an existing English Wikipedia topic, because...it should be discussed and expanded and, per the above contested deletion comments by the page creator, the page expands and pertains to visual art methods in particular and not all of art media covered in another list. This seems an interesting and encyclopedically usable page, and has even further potential. Randy Kryn (talk) 20:36, 24 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Randy Kryn, I'm going to take it to AfD. There is no such thing as an "art method" and we already have two lists that deal with most of the topics included here. This list has no clear inclusion criteria. No sources exist that even mention such a thing, in addition to medium, style and technique. No museum uses "method as a category. Look at the catalog of the Metropolitan museum for example (here's the first page I see: https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/544501?searchField=All&sortBy=Relevance&high=on&ao=on&showOnly=openAccess&ft=*&offset=0&rpp=20&pos=1) Period, Dynasty, Reign, Date, Geography, Medium. Those are all excellent selection criteria for lists or categories: I can see lists of works from or realted to The New Kingdom of Egypt, Eighteenth Dynasty of Egypt, Amenhotep III, or even 14th century BC pottery migh t make sense. But I have never seen anyone use the very ill-defined "method" as a way of cataloguing artworks, other than here. Have you?
The argument use above that List of art movements doesn't cover art styles such as Paper art is flawed. Paper is a medium and Paper art can be covered by List of art media. I have made a suggestion for a possible list: techniques, which has been ignored. So unless we make a list of techniques, I'm going to oppose. Vexations (talk) 21:40, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Good points. RfD seems like a good place for this, to see if a discussion evolves the page. Another list it may duplicate or overlap is List of architectural styles. I may not vote to keep, per your points, but maybe some expansion of the lists mentioned will result. Randy Kryn (talk) 21:46, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: @Randy Kryn: @Vexations: I am ok with a title change/page move to List of art techniques because it is an accurate description of the method/style direction. At that point the list can be trimmed, perhaps into sections - and we can see if architecture belongs. Wm335td (talk) 17:54, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Wm335td, here's a list of painting techniques that I think can be included in a list of art techniques.
A good plan, as architecture may be too far afield to include but could fit some links into a 'See also'. Randy Kryn (talk) 13:40, 28 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Randy Kryn: @Vexations: I Changed the page name and did some list cleanup, added photos, and researched additional techniques. Please take a look and see that it is up to par when you get time. And many thanks to both of you for the assistance. Wm335td (talk) 17:18, 28 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
