New Section

[edit]

If relevant, possibly a new section is required which could compare LifeRing's effectiveness to other self-help groups. I couldn't find enough peer review research to make any good quality comparisons but other editors of course should try as papers become available, in particular compared with SMART which has a similar methodology, or with AA which is quite different, although more widely studied. SMART and AA cost-effectiveness statement

[edit]

@Mramoeba: regarding this sentence "Secular self-help addiction group SMART Recovery and twelve-step support organizations such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) have been widely studied and found to be both successful and cost-effective in addiction treatment programs." I read the preview of the cited pages (538-541) in Lowinson and Ruiz's Substance Abuse: A Comprehensive Textbook and had another looks at Religiosity and participation in mutual-aid support groups for addiction. While I know they have been studied and I'm not questioning their cost-effectiveness, and I don't see material in them supporting the claim of cost-effectiveness or how widely the groups are studied in the case of SMART or AA from these two sources. I'd suggest we just remove this first sentence as it's not really relevant to LifeRing in any case. - Scarpy (talk) 17:28, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm fine with that, thanks for pointing that out. I agree, take it out. I wasn't happy with it either once it was pointed out Mramoeba (talk) 17:40, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
