Of course we all have different understandings of what is erotic, but to me, this is not "highly erotic" as the article referenced says. Maybe "the importance of the lesbian motif in nineteenth-century art, literature and popular erotica" should be used as a clarification of what justifies its category as such?
The text currently reads: "The painting shows two naked women lying asleep on a bed entwined in an erotic embrace, resting after sexual intercourse." That they are entwined is obviously true; that they are resting after intercourse is obviously conjecture, and is not supported by the quoted reference.
