Discovery date

[edit]

An editor recently changed the discovery date from May 12, 2016 to July 7 2011. I have been trying to do some research. and what I found was:

  • possibly sometime back in 2011, Kepler-1229b was a planet candidate.
  • found a paper dated February 22, 2013, mentioning Kepler KIC 10027247, another name for 1229b.
  • Nasa confirmed the planet in an announcement in May 10, 2016, along with 1283 other planets.

But I haven't found a source showing the initial discovery. And what exactly is considered the discovery? The initial reading that hints as a planet, or the confirmation? Dhrm77 (talk) 12:54, 11 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
