Criticism
[edit]"however, their tremendous wealth holds sway over politicians of all stripes, federally and provincially." While I'm sure this statement is likely true, it is a very serious accusation, as such practices are prohibited by Canadian law. Unless a source can be given for this statement, it should probably be removed. Sandwiches99 04:14, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- Are writers on here threatened by that mentioned family? Having the ownership of the media in their state, this is dangerously close to a conglomerate of private interests and politics which is the opposite of a democratic and republican governing of a state. Writers should feel free to think about a level of corruption and do some research there. Truth always finds its way. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.184.35.114 (talk) 12:40, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
- Alternately, of course, we could just produce a neutral, well-researched, balanced, and thoroughly-cited encyclopaedia entry on the Irvings and leave the editorializing for discussion boards elsewhere. Your call. Geoff NoNick (talk) 16:47, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
- They are made to seem so dark, evil, secretive and up to no good. Why hasn't anybody written up on the decent things they have done? More about work provided? Efforts to replenish trees, clean water, produce cleaner air? As any producer out there, they aren't perfect, but they aren't as ominous as they are made to sound on here. (SaintJohner - July 15, 2009)
- The Hells Angels do good from time to time, too, for it improves their positive reputation. Sure, a certain Austrian with an exotic moustache gave a lot of work to the Germans when he came into power, too. Positive, agreed. To find the truth is no bedeveling. Why not write about press censorship, environmental destruction, blacklisting and other 'things' which would be called something very different by independent judges and politicians if it was not in N.B.? Little to be found in local media as people lose their jobs if they oppose The Mighty I. But Canada is not Russia yet, so free speech as well as fundamental background info must be published. Unless Wikipedia lets itself be converted into a mouthpiece of a company. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.157.42.88 (talk) 02:05, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
- There is a book available titled: Twenty-First Century Irvings, by Harvey Sawler 2007, The book mentions a 2001 CBC Documentary titled: Unlocking the Mystery, The Irvings as You've Never Seen Them Before, just thought I'd mention it if anyone wanted to know the real story on the Irvings and do a nice write up here. Need Irving Oil article there is one
[edit]The above discussion is for Irving Oil, not K. C. Irving--two totally different things as far as WP is concerned. Irving Oil's effect on NB and Maine, and now much of New England is worth looking at, but not in a posthumous biography.--142.167.189.250 (talk) 05:40, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
Background parents etc
[edit]No info given in the article about the parents and farther ancestors of K.C.I.? Other industrialists' families are way more extensely covered than this one. Contrary to the majority of the old population of New Brunswick, they do not stem from Loyalists. This family's immigrant ancestors came from the West March area of the border region between Scotland and England.
