Righting a capsized hobie

[edit]

Why isn't this entry a subsection of the Hobie cat entry???

It is not possible for one person to right a H16 without using additional equipment such as a righting bag or some device to slacken the shrouds.

That's not true. I right mine all the time by myself with no special or extra equipment. It's really not hard to do. 216.221.113.15 04:34, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tell us more! There's no way mine's coming up with just me. Not even close. I guess you must have some weight on me. Actually, I can kinda see it coming up almost by itself in good strong winds.HighlyErratic 20:59, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

I have been able to right a 16 by myself with only a righting line and my 135 lbs (61kg) of weight. I had to loosen the mainsheet and swim the mast around so that the wind was able to help "fly" the sail out of the water. The hard part was keeping her from flipping right back over as she righted. The key was to let the wind do the heavy lifting for me... This was done on the ocean with quite a bit of wave action which may have helped to break the sail free. Fear is a great motivator! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 157.130.40.102 (talk) 11:41, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
