. It is therefore fair use if it is only used on Hindu Temples - What Happened to Them. That was how the image was used. Therefore all edits spuriously tagging this page and the relevant book page are vandalism.Bakaman 16:45, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- Agreed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2C0F:F930:0:3:0:0:0:221 (talk) 16:53, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
Claim vs. Assert
[edit]This page uses the word "claim" for the authors' assertions. Claims are normally made upon something of value, e.g. land or mineral rights; using the word insinuates that the authors stand to gain something from that assertion. A word like "state" or "assert" would be less pejorative and judgmental, in keeping with the Wikipedia's standards. Sooku (talk) 07:54, 5 April 2015 (UTC)
Temple list from Hindu Temples: What Happened to Them
[edit]This is the famous temple list of destroyed temples from the book Hindu Temples - What Happened to Them. Source is online at many websites [1] and many others.
It would be a useful addition to the article. If others agree, I will add to the article.

- Sorry, this article should cover what reliable sources say about the book; it should in no way reproduce the content of the book. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 00:51, 26 December 2017 (UTC)

1 is fine, but let us note that it is a passing mention. Doesn't contribute to WP:GNG.
2 is by an Economics lecturer, certainly not an authority for history. (I also suspect that he is a colleague of Meenakshi Jain, who herself apparently wrote a similar book.)
3 is also a passing mention.
4 is an WP:SPS, not a reliable source for anything.
5 is a repeat of 1.
6 looks like a Hindutva propaganda book.
So, nothing here contributes to WP:GNG. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 13:55, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks Kautilya3 for the elaboration. I agree with this analysis of the source. In addition 2 and 3 are op-ed pieces.
- Even Wikipedia is tagging Pharaoh of the Wizards' edit as "Tag: content sourced to vanity press". I think it is a moment of reckoning for Pharaoh of the Wizards. Perhaps a re-read of WP:RS is now due. Walrus Ji (talk) 14:20, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
- The concept of "op-ed" exists only for newspapers, because the newspapers disown responsibility for what is written in them. In magazines however, there is no such distinction. We have to use our own criteria for decidind whether the source is reliable or not for the subject matter at hand. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 14:33, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
