Death
[edit]In doing research for a graduate thesis almost 20 years ago, I read that Mr. Willard had lost a great deal of money backing the airshow, was essentially bankrupt, and caused the crash by leaping to his death, throwing the light aircraft out of balance and causing it to flip over, ejecting Quimby. I think my source was the Boston Globe newspaper for the following day. Dick Kimball (talk) 13:17, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
On a somewhat related note, I remember reading that she wasn't wearing a seatbelt that day because she had a morbid fear of being trapped in a burning airplane. So she was worried about the wrong "element". Cranston Lamont (talk) 17:11, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, the newspaper column shown in this article (from the Fort Wayne Sentinel) says that a sudden gust of wind caused the plane to flip over and eject both Willard and Quimby. If what Dick Kimball says was true, then Willard would have been seen falling before the plane flipped over, but eyewitness accounts given in this column say that the plane first flipped over and then Willard and Quimby were thrown clear. - "reasons still unknown" ... I'm fairly sure by now that no one will ever know ... the 'still' is redundant. 66.81.104.64 (talk) 02:38, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
Quimby Road, San Jose, California
[edit]There's a Quimby Road near, but not quite adjacent to Reid-Hillview Airport in San Jose, California. I don't know if Harriet Quimby was the namesake, but it's possible, since there are a couple of other streets in the neighborhood named after early 20th century aviation pioneers. May worth researching?—QuicksilverT @ 19:42, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

Another film appearance?
[edit]I've seen some online references (I'm sorry I don't have a link) that Harriet also had a small role in Fisher Folks, one of the films she wrote for Griffith. I haven't been able to verify, but then the other film she is credited as appearing in is on Youtube and I don't recognize her among the cast so her appearance may be easy for someone to verify. Fisher Folks is also on Youtube and there is a group scene in the clip I saw so Harriet could be lurking in the background. 23skidoo (talk) 16:07, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
Article may need updating/revision
[edit]I just did an edit to add information about some of her early acting work. In doing so I noticed I was the first to cite Don Dahler's biography that was published in 2022. It contains a lot of "newly discovered" information (such as her stage name). It might be worth considering giving this article an overhaul and updating to add in the information from Dahler's book which seems to be the first major biography of Quimby to be published in a number of years. 23skidoo (talk) 16:36, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
