Australian team

[edit]

I could be wrong but isn't the Australian team for the Olympics the Olyroos (Australia national under-23 football team) rather than the usual Socceroos Australian team?? 1dragon (talk) 05:58, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, you are correct, it is the Olyroos playing not the Socceroos. 124.181.198.126 (talk) 00:32, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

England's non-qualification

[edit]

Neither from the article, nor from the reference it becomes clear _why_ England's football team is not qualified for the Olympian Football Tournament despite reaching the semi-finals of the U21 European Football Championship 2007. An explanation should be added.

The referenced webpage cites paragraph 5.1 of the "Regulations of the Olympic Football Tournaments". There it says "The associations affiliated to FIFA may participate in the Tournaments provided there is a National Olympic Committee (NOC) in their respective country which is already recognised or about to be recognised by the IOC." It seems that England does not have its own, recognised NOC (I didn't knew that). Therefore, neither the Men's nor the Woman's team is eligable for qualification. This is supported by the following BBC website: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/women/6985988.stm —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.179.100.80 (talk) 11:47, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

England doesn't enter the Olympics, but as part of Great Britain, so there was was never any need voor a National Olympic Committee (NOC) voor England alone. Apparently, an exception will not be made for the English football squads (men and women). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Maxb5 (talkcontribs) 20:56, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Olympic Sports Center Stadium Beijing

[edit]

This stadium isn't used in any match. Are you sure that it should be mentioned in the list of venues? --VovanA (talk) 10:55, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
