Non-English names and terms

[edit]

A good article, but has been mostly translated from the Spanish - and many names of flora and fauna are not in English. I shall endeavour to rectify that. Ptilinopus (talk) 13:14, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Note - since Cedrela mexicana and Cedrela odorata are now regarded as synonyms, I have combined them. Ptilinopus (talk) 19:47, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Notes on Fauna. I have edited the paragraphs under the title Fauna, correcting spelling, rewriting some of the grammar, and correcting species names. A number are misspelled, and some have obsolete or unrecognized scientific names, or are now split from the original name. Specifically:

- "Wild Boar" is a mistranslation of a local term "jabali" which seems to be a nickname for the White-lipped Peccary. The Wild Boar (Sus scrofa) is not in Honduras.

- Jagüilla ("His americanensis") - from Spanish, "His" is "Sus" (in the Spanish version) - but this is not a species. It would appear to refer to Collared peccary (Pecari tajacu)

- Eumops glaucinus - was placed in birds. It is a bat, and I have placed in the mammals.

- Phleoceastes guatemalensis - unaccepted genus - correct name is Campephilus guatemalensis

- "Rhanfastus" is a mis-spelling.

- "Botrox" - misspelled - should be Bothrops. Species in Central America is not B. atrox (South America), but B. asper.

- "Botrox nasuta" = Porthidium nasutum

- Crotalus durissus is South American. The species in Honduras is Crotalus simus.

- Acanthopleura granulata, is a chiton, not a reptile. I have deleted it, as it is unclear to what it was supposed to refer.

- Caretta caretta (loggerhead) is not a freshwater turtle. I have removed the name.

I have also similarly treated the lists that follow. Many of them duplicate what is already in the paragraphs above, and in my opinion, are redundant, though there are some data that could be added to the paragraphs. Whether the lists should be removed, I would like to see other opinions. And I have updated captions on the photos. Ptilinopus (talk) 09:23, 2 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
