Player's name - Eddy or Eddie

[edit]

He is variously and inconsistently called Eddy or Eddie. I've gone with Eddy because that's the spelling used in the Eddy Brown interview in Lancashire Evening Post (2003) which is a major source for the article. It's also the way he's spelt in material from the Birmingham City Historical Society who arrange players' reunions etc so deal with him personally, and on the committee members list of Broughton Amateurs AFC. Jobs?

[edit]
  • "After leaving professional football Brown taught games at Preston Catholic College....."
  • "After retiring fom (sic) the game, Brown returned to live in Preston and worked in the family carpet firm as a sales representative......."

Surely he didn't do both jobs.......? -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 12:00, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have no knowledge of the carpet-selling (although from what I read of the man he'd undoubtedly have been good at it, there wasn't much he couldn't do). User:Daemonic Kangaroo added that from a Southampton source. While at Blues he taught at a school in Wolverhampton (which I must get round to adding to the article), and he certainly taught in Preston; there are too many independent sources for that to be incorrect. As there are few dates, and plenty of years to fill, it's possible that he did both, perhaps selling carpets till he got a teaching post. Tis misleading the way it's written, though... cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:37, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Struway beat me to it! I'll re-check my Southampton sources when I'm at home and see if I can clarify the position and add a reference. --Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 12:42, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have checked my reference book which included, more or less word for word, the second sentence above. I have re-worded this slightly so as to avoid contradicting the teaching career, and added a reference. Hope this is OK. Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 18:52, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Have moved the carpet bit to immediately after retiring as a player, then gone on to talk about the teaching. Makes sense to me that way, till proven otherwise... cheers, Struway2 (talk) 20:29, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
