Actual usage in USA

[edit]

AFAIK, in the USA, the term "Ring-necked pheasant" refers to Phasianus colchicus, and Phasianus colchicus is generally known as the Ring-necked pheasant.
E.g.:

Smallest genome

[edit]

The Common Pheasant article said that as of 2005, that bird has the smallest known genome of all living amniotes, only 0.97 pg (970 million base pairs) and gives the source: "Animal Genome Size Database". but that source says the black-chinned hummingbird has the smallest genome of all birds. Aren't all birds amniotes? I've updated the articles to reflect that the black-chinned hummingbird now seems to have the smallest genome of birds and therefore also amniotes. revert

[edit]

User:Justlettersandnumbers You reverted my edits saying 'Not clear that this is an improvement, please discuss on talk'. If you are not sure you should discuss on talk, not unilaterally revert a good faith edit. Please explain, for instance, how on earth the female pheasant you prefer (tiny image, some tail missing), could be better than the image I inserted. And since I took both the images of the male, I am in a good position to judge which is more encyclopaedic. Charlesjsharp (talk) 08:51, 3 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Impact on insect populations

[edit]

The huge ecological impact of pheasant rearing on insect populations, especially threatened species, should be covered. 80.7.168.14 (talk) 07:21, 27 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

missing language German

[edit]

The Common Pheasant in German is https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fasan I can't link it in the choice of languages. 2001:4BC9:A46:6AEC:62A7:8DA:7A14:99BC (talk) 21:24, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think I've fixed that – the German page was linked to generic pages such as our Pheasant. I can't see that de.wp has such a page. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 09:52, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
