Semicolon disagreement December 2023

[edit]

@Jmuse99 and Firefangledfeathers: Hi :) Regarding recent changes to the punctuation by Jmuse99 and Firefangledfeathers; the fact that Arone Dyer is a native of Wilmar and her writing of songs are definitely independent. The latter clause is not dependant on the former. It merely establishes her geographical roots and location ahead of explaining the move to NYC. I don't want to make a big fuss, but we do disagree here. In the current form we are stating that her writing of songs was dependant on her being a native of Wilmar, and this is just plainly wrong (although not intentional I'm sure). I agree that the sentence as I originally wrote it was rambling and can be improved.

How would you feel about "Arone Dyer had been writing songs since 1993, performing at coffee houses around her hometown of Willmar, Minnesota. As she was not formally educated in guitar playing, she tuned her Fender Classical acoustic guitar however she liked."? No pesky semicolons and most relevant info retained in easy to digest sentences. Fred Gandt · talk · contribs 02:55, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That rewrite is fine with me. For the record, "dependent" and "independent" in grammar aren't comments on the content of the sentence, just whether or not they have both a subject and a verb. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 03:00, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ah. I might have been looking out the window during that lesson, so I'll take your word for it for now ;) I'll do the thing :) Fred Gandt · talk · contribs 03:11, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Dyer's collab with s t a r g a z e

[edit]

How do we feel about adding info regarding Arone x s t a r g a z e (official Bandcamp release page)? It's not a Buke and Gase release, although it's listed under their umbrella. Since neither Dyer or Sanchez has an article of their own (yet)... what do we think? Fred Gandt · talk · contribs 03:11, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sanchez' DNRES releases too; though they are far more experimental and independent. Fred Gandt · talk · contribs 03:41, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
