I have a concern. The area code map that was provided doesn't match the one provided by the North American Numbering Plan Authority(NANPA)(http://nanpa.com/area_code_maps/display.html?ny). It also doesn't match the area I recall as being a part of the area code. For those reasons I have removed the user drawn map until a more accurate version can be located that is unencumbered rights wise. I will be contacting the legal contact for the NANPA site and seeing if they would be willing to release their map to be used on Wikipedia. Rjhawkin (talk) 01:04, 27 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I restored the map. IMHO, the area shown is not grossly wrong and gives a good overall view of the state, even if not absolutely correct. Please let me know what the outcome is of your discussion with the NANPA folks. The other alternative is to modify the NY master map (recently done to correct some downstate issues) and make new derivative maps. I feel this is a better option.--Arg342 (talk) 09:08, 16 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I added a note at the talk for the NY Master map at Commons:File talk:Area codes ny.svg. --Arg342 (talk) 09:30, 16 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I uploaded a new NY Master map at Commons:File:Area codes ny.svg that should resolve this. If there are no objections in a few days, i will make the derivative maps, including this one.--Arg342 (talk) 10:49, 19 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
New derivative maps are up, including the one for this article. --Arg342 (talk) 20:02, 21 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
This had slipped off my radar, so I gave Neustar, Incorporated's Legal contact another call. In March the contact was on vacation, now they are just out of the office. Neustar only lists mail and phone contacts and not email. http://www.nanpa.com/content/legalNotice.html

The new map looks to be accurate for the 585 area, thank you for the update. Rjhawkin (talk) 16:07, 23 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
