First viola concerto ever heard?
[edit]Telemann, whose concerto was written for viola and not viola da gamba or viola d'amore (to my knowledge), was already dead by that time. His concerto in G and concerto(s) for two violas was unknown to that writer, but the writer's claims are still false. Schissel | Sound the Note! 07:45, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
I now regret my too-hasty claims; Telemann's concerto may indeed have been originally for gamba- but I am not sure. Will have to look into that. Vanhal may have written his concertos for viola before Rolla, but it's possible they were for viola d'amore, like the Stamitz concertos. Needs looking into further, anycase. Sorry! "List of Compositions" section needed
[edit]The Italian page http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alessandro_Rolla#Lavori has a good starter list of compositions by Rolla which might be profitably translated.
http://www.rolla.lim.di.unimi.it/opere.php (Italian) is even more complete.
The composer's complete catalogue of works was collated by "Bianchi-Inzaghi". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.0.193.12 (talk) 00:11, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

Date of birth
[edit]The majority of sources say 22 April, which is what we've gone with. A few say 23 April. And a small number, including Italian WP, say 6 April, .
Why the discrepancy, and what credence can be given to any of these versions? -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 22:07, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
