Why "Tagus Bridge" and not "25 de Abril Bridge"? I thought the latter was its name. -Montréalais 05:13, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have seen it referred to both of those ways as well as the Anglicised spelling of "25th of April Bridge". May I suggest: Why don't you go ahead and create redirects to the article from those two name variants? ++Lar: t/c 06:03, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've done so, but I'd still like to know why it's at Tagus Bridge and not 25 de Abril Bridge, as I've most often seen it. - Montréalais 16:19, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have no idea. I'd advocate checking the history and asking some of the early article editors, maybe they know. This bridge just happened to be on my watch list so I commented. There is, I think, a tendency to leave articles where they started out namewise, barring any major reason not to. I think there is also a tendency to name things using english naming so it would have been named the anglicised way instead of the Portugese way perhaps?. Since that might have been unclear, perhaps they went with the way structurae.de names it??? All speculation on my part. For what it's worth, given that there aren't a lot of people editing it, a move to the name you prefer, coupled with some significant editing on the content (consider adding the infobox bridge to capture more info if you know it) might be well received. Of course it is presumptuous of me to tell you this since you have 15x as many edits as I do so please forgive me for the suggestion if it gives offense. ++Lar: t/c 18:01, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Not at all. Simply interested if there were any strong opinions to the contrary. - Montréalais 16:28, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

shrugs So, where do we move this? Is there an official website for this bridge? If so, does it have an English version? If yes, we'll use whatever they officially use in English texts; if not, we'll use the official Portuguese spelling, I'd say. —Nightstallion (?) 07:35, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up, Night... That approach sounds good to me. Which name is primary doesn't matter so much to me as leaving redirects behind at all the other ones so that the bridge can be found by people looking for it that know it under whatever name. That just leaves us waiting on answering whether there is an official English version or not. Anyone know how best to answer that? ++Lar: t/c 12:44, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wasn't able to find much on an official English name, so I went with the original. —Nightstallion (?) Seen this already? 07:53, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Similarity to Golden Gate Bridge

[edit]

I'm wondering if there is a citation for this. It looks to me that the bridge is more similar to the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. -- SamuelWantman 07:35, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm guessing that it is similar to the old Bay Bridge, not the new one. Is that worth pointing out? Jepace (talk) 17:28, 26 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

In reality is a mixture of both, same colour as the golden Gate and similar structure to the Bay Bridge. Oficial site is this one:http://www.lusoponte.pt/uk/p25.htm so in english we get it as "25 de Abril Bridge". Sotavento (talk) 02:53, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
