Merge
[edit]I think that this could be merged and redirect to the FA article 1-2+3-4+...--Cronholm144 22:29, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
- Almost everything said in this article does not apply to the other article, and vice versa. Melchoir 09:14, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
What do you mean? It is a infinite alternating series that has similar "convergence" properties--Cronholm144 09:23, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
- Not really. 1-2+4-8... is a divergent geometric series, and 1-2+3-4... is not, so that gives them quite different properties. Merging them would create confusion - it would be like merging bat into whale because they are both mammals. I disagree with this merge proposal. Gandalf61 09:50, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
notice I did not say geometric for that very reason. I have made a suggestion on Mechoir's talk page.--Cronholm144 09:54, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
- Cronholm144 - you proposed a merge and I gave you my view. I am not interested in entering into a protracted debate on this. If you want to canvas the views of the wider Wikipedia mathematics community, you could start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Mathematics. Gandalf61 10:14, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
I didn't mean to be rude, I am rather tired. The debate is already over--Cronholm144 10:16, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
I just proved that 1 - 2 + 4 - 8 + ... equals 1/3
[edit]It's here:
s = 1 - 2 + 4 - 8 + ...
s = 1 - 2(1 - 2 + 4 - 8 +...)
s = 1 - 2s
3s = 1
s = 1/3
