Group one

[edit]

The information on group one says that the third match wasn't played, but the table seems to indicate a 3-0 win to Lithuania. Which is it? Grutness...wha? 12:37, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Group five

[edit]

Did Poland withdraw or not? There is a result for a second match of the group, said to be played the very same day as the first one! At least two of the statements (withdrawal, match played, date of match) are wrong. Which? Fomalhaut76 (talk) 21:08, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Czechoslovakia vs Poland

[edit]

@Tanonero: I had to remove the RSSSF source again, as it only says the match wasn't played, and doesn't mention an awarded result. Apparently FIFA treats the match as 2–0. It used to be listed this way in FIFA's website when it still had pages on the historical qualifications, and this document says that 27 matches were played and 141 goals were scored during the 1934 qualification, which can only add up with Czechoslovakia 2–0 Poland (instead of nothing) and Switzerland 2–0 Romania (instead of 2–2). I've recently changed those two results to go by FIFA. Now we need sources from FIFA. --Theurgist (talk) 23:38, 17 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Theurgist: I added the source to support the statement that Poland were unable to travel to Prague, which needs to be referenced. You're right that the source doesn't mention any specific awarded score, so I think the score should be removed if the only way we can come up with it is by making calculations. An awarded result can be reinstated when and if an official source is found (and I have tried to found it to no avail). --Tanonero (msg) 12:47, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've cited an archived version of FIFA.com's page on this qualification. That page in fact merely lists the score as 2–0 and even gives the date and the location of the match, as if there's nothing special about it.
The same page also lists Switzerland vs Romania as 2–2 rather than an awarded 2–0, so I've reverted my own modification to that game and have cited the link for it too. Now the numbers don't add up again.
I won't object if someone says that archived (i.e. non-live) pages are not acceptable. But in general I think that articles on FIFA competitions should stick to FIFA's official records and report differences in RSSSF and other reputable sources secondarily. --Theurgist (talk) 02:21, 19 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
