  • 04:2404:24, 23 June 2021 diff hist −8 Jämthund History: Incorrect and misleading. In order to differentiate between the American elk and moose we use the term "moose" in English. This avoids any confusion. Likewise, British do the same (American English, British English, English English). I am Swedish, in English I/we say "moose" for "älg," as in "älghund" - "moose dog." Likewise Norwegians say "moose" for "elg," as in "elghund" or "moose dog." We would never say "elk dog" in English because Jämthund is used for hunting moose, not elk. Tags: Manual revert Reverted

  • 20:3220:32, 19 June 2021 diff hist −8 Jämthund History: Using American English there are no elk in Scandinavia. "Elg" means "moose." In the UK those who read scientific articles or hear the word on t.v. or news such as BBC now know the difference between an elk and a moose. An "elg hund" or Swedish "älghund" means "moose dog." As we all know, the name Elkhound is a misnomer phonetically mistranslated from the Norwegian name "Norsk elghund," meaning "Moose Dog." They hunt moose, bear and wolves.
