  • 20:0320:03, 28 April 2020 diff hist −3 m Tamworth, Staffordshire Mercia: The "age of majority" in Anglo-Saxon Mercia is believed to have been around 15. This was the age when a boy could marry, be expected to fight, or otherwise take on adult responsibility (such as function as an ealdorman or king). Therefore the idea that he "retired from the military" at the age of 15 makes no sense. Tag: Visual edit

  • 20:5520:55, 1 September 2019 diff hist +445 m Victims of the White Ship disaster Commentary: There seem to be a lot of assumptions that are based on 21st century thinking, not that of the people of that time. For example, people betrothed to one another did not necessarily even know one another very well - virtually all such marriages were political in nature. There is not reason why they would have insisted on travelling aboard the same ship. Also, there were very likely no "formal investigations" at that time - that is a modern phenom. Rather, God's will was blamed. Tag: 2017 wikitext editor
