Description Extract from the recording by the FAA's New York Terminal Radar Approach Control Facility (TRACON) during the bird strike and subsequent ditching of US Airways Flight 1549. This recording picks up about the moment of impact, with a normal flight instruction being given to flight 1549, and continues to about the time of splashdown, when the tower starts directing other flights again. It is about 3:10 long, and was converted from an MP3 file published by the FAA.

  1. According to the NTSB's final report (page 2), the cockpit voice recorder shows this line actually started "mayday mayday mayday", but that portion was not transmitted due to another pilot transmitting on the same frequency at that moment.
