The Alexanders Building is a historic building located at 6624 W. Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California.

History

[edit]

The Alexanders Building was built in 1917.[1] In 1942, Cinema Bowling Center occupied the building,[2] and in 1950, the building housed Carlin's Cinema Sports Center, which featured a rumpus room, barber shop, gift shop, bowling, pool, and a fountain café and juice bar.[3]

In 1984, the Hollywood Boulevard Commercial and Entertainment District was added to the National Register of Historic Places, with Alexanders listed in the district. The listing noted that the building, a late moderne remodel of earlier commercial utilitarian structure, featured a stepped false front and had some compatibility in design and massing with its contributing property neighbor. Despite this, Alexanders was not listed as a contributing property in the district.[1]
