Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Z1720 (talk | contribs) at 06:16, 28 August 2024 (→‎Today's OTD: re, hook pulled). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 02:39 on 14 September 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Errors with "In the news"

Errors in "Did you know ..."

Errors in "On this day"

  • When I wrote the hook, I only included information that happened on the first day and stated at the end: "starting the Battle of the Blacks". There have been other hooks run on OTD of battles that have lasted multiple days, and the hooks specify what specifically happened in the battle on the day that it appears at OTD. If I have made a mistake please comment below. Z1720 (talk) 05:44, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Z1720: I think the confusion is that the article says the battle was 21–23 August, but this is running on 28 August, after that span. Some date is not right if this was really to have started the battle. Also, your edit summary says Swapping hooks; + Battle of the Blacks; Shulamith Firestone to ineligible—perhaps this wasn't meant to run, but instead be placed under "Ineligible" (but the dates still seem off)—Bagumba (talk) 06:06, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • I took another look and saw that I was mistaken. I pulled the hook and put in another one. The entries I pulled from Wikidata for Aug 28 had this battle listed and I missed the dates at the top of the article. The edit summary was not incorrect of my intentions.
