editFrom Ottoman Turkish كلین (gelin, “bride, daughter in law”),[1] from Proto-Turkic *kẹlin (“bride, daughter-in-law”), from Proto-Turkic *kẹl- (“to come”)[2] with the suffix Proto-Turkic *-in (“derives nouns from intransitive verbs”).[3] Cognate with Old Turkic 𐰚𐰠𐰤 (kl²n²), Azerbaijani gəlin, Turkmen gelin, Kazakh келін (kelın), Kyrgyz келин (kelin), Uzbek kelin.
