Inherited from Old Anatolian Turkish اِیپْ (ip), from Proto-Turkic *yïp (thread). Cognate with Azerbaijani ip, Bashkir еп (yep), Chuvash ҫип (śip), Kazakh жіп (jıp), Kyrgyz жип (jip), Turkmen ýüp, Uzbek ip and Yakut сип (sip).
