German
Etymology
From Middle High German valden, from Old High German faldan.
Pronunciation
Verb
falten (weak or mixed, third-person singular present faltet, past tense faltete, past participle gefaltet or (regional) gefalten, auxiliary haben)
- to fold
Usage notes
- The normal past past participle is gefaltet. The strong form gefalten is used in some regions but is now rarely seen in writing, although it is the older form (compare the Dutch cognate vouwen, in which the strong past participle gevouwen has remained standard).
