It's for an article I am writing on American astronomer Marjorie Meinel (1922–2008). If anyone can send me a copy that would be brill!

Bartleby Research: Who Are The Descendants Of Troy
edit{{Resolved}}
- La Porta, Sergio (1 March 2016). "Who Are The Descendants Of Troy". Bartleby.com. Retrieved 2022-10-23.
Hoping to use this as a jumping off point (not treating it as a reliable source itself, but a guide to help find other sources, and see if I've missed anything) for articles related to the Trojan War, and its influence on medieval literature. Can't find the article anywhere else online, and it's behind a paywall at Bartleby.
Thanks, ‑‑YodinT 21:56, 23 October 2022 (UTC)
- Yodin, how about sending the author an email and explaining what you want to use it for? It's only 355 words (of which more than 100 are visible), however, so might not be too helpful. --Usernameunique (talk) 03:57, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
- Yodin, any luck with the above approach? --Usernameunique (talk) 05:39, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Usernameunique brilliant idea! I hadn't considered that word count either, though there's a chance that it still might mention one or two sources that don't have any coverage here. For Eastern Bloc. A malformed reference was added to Eastern Bloc economies in 2012, which was then merged into Eastern Bloc in 2015. I've just corrected all the other reference issue in the article, apart from one that I believe is referring to the specified dissertation at ProQuest, unfortunately it is unavailable through the Wikipedia Library.

Apparently the book is digitized but I can't locate an open access version anywhere in Mexico.

- I do not think that the book is digitized except by HathiTrust which is inaccessible to all. TrangaBellam (talk) 19:29, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
- TrangaBellam, not actually true. HathiTrust books out of copyright are available to anyone. Versions of books not out of copyright are available to people who have visual difficulties, thus some copies are available and we might have editors who have access. However, as I said at the top, ILL may be the way it has to be acquired. During the covid shutdowns, I was often able to use the "ask a librarian" from Worldcat and obtain either digitized material or libraries would scan and send non-digitized materials to me. Since libraries have reopened, their usual response is that the item is only available through interlibrary loan, even after I have explained that I do not live in a place where that is an option. My option is to ask here, or disregard the source, but usually someone at this helpful exchange has been able to find what I seek. SusunW (talk) 22:17, 10 February 2023 (UTC)

- Kun Kipcsak, isn't there a Romanian equivalent of WP:RX? Anyway, this is the link to the dictionary on the Wikipedia Library. In case the link does not resolve correctly, choose the Oxford References tab in the Wikipedia Library and find the book there. Copypasting the whole book name didn't show relevant results, but typing in some exotic town name like "Żyrardów" immediately gave me the book I was looking for. Bit of an odd one. I have zero access to this book through any means, as there's no Google preview, so I can't even search it and give a page number from the index. I'm looking for confirmation about the date and location of Alexander McQueen's graduate thesis collection, Jack the Ripper Stalks His Victims. I'm also looking for any information about shows presented by the school in July 1992. Some sources provide a July 1992 date for the grad collection, even though most agree it's March 1992. I'm curious if perhaps they had a second show in July and it's just become confused. This will be used at Alexander McQueen, User:Premeditated Chaos/List of Alexander McQueen collections, and the eventual article on Jack the Ripper Stalks. Pictures of Carinhall from Library of Congress
editThe LoC offers nice pictures which must be free of rights (in Germany) because they are from 1935, but outside the library only thumbnails are available. https://www.loc.gov/search/?fa=partof:lot+3810 All the pictures on yellow paper are interesting and it will be nice if someone can download and put them to commons https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Carinhall

"Wait, isn't it archived online already?" Yes, but the archived version is, sadly, also dead. I've tried to find archives of the page but they are also dead. I have no idea how to find the source otherwise, so it'd be helpful if somebody can find it for me to replace the dead reference. Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, I just randomly found this

I was wondering if there is anywhere I could find this book using my Wikipedia Library access? I would ask for specific pages instead but for what I am doing, the full book would be best. Date of birth of Deborah Raffin (US actress, born in the 1950s)
editAny reliable source stating the date of birth of that actress. Preferably before June 2006 (date at which the Wikipedia article was created), because I have a suspicion of Wikipedia:Citogenesis to all that came later (in particular the LA Times obituary). See Talk:Deborah_Raffin#Sourcing_for_the_date_of_birth? for context. There was an IMDB entry before then, so there could be extra-Wikipedia citogenesis in theory, but (1) fact-checking standards were higher in 2006 than 2012 and (2) careless copying by journalists is more frequent from Wikipedia than from IMDB.
I do not need direct access to the source - the date of birth it gives along with a reference to the source (with as many details as possible of course: publication, page, etc.) would be sufficient.
For Deborah Raffin

- I can confirm the 1953 year of birth (see MARRIED . . . WITH PROFITS Deborah Raffin and Michael Viner want you to curl up with a good cassette. By: FELDON-MITCHELL, ALEX TRESNIOWSKI LEAH, NOLAN, CATHY, People, 00937673, 11/8/93, Vol. 40, Issue 19). Also, through the Wikipedia Library, I was able to narrow the date down from 3 January to 16 April using pre-2006 sources.
- There is a reference in the Orange County Register that the birthday is on March 13 and that she is 56 at the date of publication (2009-03-13). Rotten Tomatoes also gives that date, though I'm not sure if the source is considered generally reliable for biographical data aggregation as RSP makes no indication of this.
- In my opinion, given that we have two RSs (LA Times and OC Register) and the date range from other sources indicates plausibility that the date is correct.
- If you are really unsure, you may order an informational certified copy from the LA county clerk office. This will be definite information and anyway California's birth records are public (EDIT: don't bother about that, I wouldn't pay $41 for this. Szmenderowiecki (talk) 13:31, 13 March 2023 (UTC)
- Tigraan, also, I searched Ancestry.com via the Wikipedia Library (you need to request access before seeing the collection), which, based on some govt records from California and Nevada says that the date is March 13. And so says her tombstone as well (one of their sources). Overall, citogenesis appears to be highly unlikely in this case. Szmenderowiecki (talk) 15:08, 13 March 2023 (UTC)
- I fully agree with this. – Doc Taxon • Talk • 17:11, 13 March 2023 (UTC)
