editHi! Found this place about a week ago. Posted a few new articles so far. Still learning the conventions. Have heard of wiki elsewhere on the web and found an article of interest to me here. Specific interests include history in general, with a specific interest the Catskill region of New York State. Also have a general interest in railroads.

editHello. Have just created username after getting into trouble for vandalism to Transposing instruments (within the last hour or so - currently 4.32am in Bundaberg, Australia). Sorry about that. I was just amazed that a nobody could change web pages just like that.
I have been a medical transcriptionist (diagnostic radiology) for about two years. Before that I taught piano and music theory for 8.5 years. I had a good reputation as a music teacher and have diplomas in piano performance and teaching. So maybe I can be of some use in these areas.

avaiki - jason brown
editKia orana, greetings, all,
I have been resident since I was 12 years old in Avaiki, Cook Islands, arriving there with my mother and younger brother in 1977. In 1982, I got a job as a reporter with the only daily newspaper, Cook Islands News, beginning a career that has taken me through most parts of the industry. I have wide general knowledge about the country's historical heritage, including links to Maori in New Zealand, Maohi in Tahiti and Maoli in Hawaii. My time has been very limited until this year when I basically stepped back from the frontlines and am recovering from burnout, etc, bla bla bla.
Wikipedia has saved my bacon as a reporter on so many occasions that I thought it was time to get involved more formally and put something back while rebuilding my personal life. Usual mid-life crisis, bla bla bla but no younger woman, yet.
Over my career, I have been humbled and honoured by seeing many amazing things, but the one that comes to mind is a young man from Fiji who visited my adoptive home island for a canoe festival. He scuffed away the gravel under his feet, knelt in the dust in front of the VIP tent, and asked forgiveness in advance from the aronga mana, the leaders of the land, for any offence he and his team mates caused through their ignorance of local custom. Likewise, me as I stumble into the wikisphere.
Kia manuia, bon chance,

editWikipedia is great because of quick reference. It can increase one's knowledge exponentially. However, the electronic factor is a problem insofar as the printed page is much more benign (no electronics). I have an initial comment regarding some Wikipedia procedure. To create articles you need going into "help" and clicking the blue keywords. Why not have "create a page" or article as an icon? I lost material initially and I had an account. I still don't know why I lost material. Also, I am tentative about putting info in because of so-called "session loss." Also a spell and grammar checker would be a nice added feature. No matter how professional you are, people still misspell words. People who don't use spell or grammar checkers are just arrogant and need to be more docible. I am a good speller, but typos are a norm. My Ph.D. is in English common Law and I am the leader of the spiritual teaching AKATHA, the Ancient Science of Sahaji (Soul Travel). I have been teaching Sahaji for thirty-five (35) years and recently came back from India living in a Hindu ashram for awhile. My websites are www.webspawner.com/users/timarnold and http//www.toi.t83.com. My e-mail is grnthghs@yahoo.com. Please feel free to contact me, but note that I wish not to argue and certain attitudes (negative) will not be responded to. Thank you. I was in Eckankar for seventeen (17) years and revere Sri Paul Twitchell as my mentor and guide from the late 60's. Baraka Bashad (May the Blessings Be)

Hello, my name is Frederick Joseph Maerkle lll, my friends know me as Rick Maerkle. Please call me Rick Maerkle.
I am a Business Broker in Florida, selling all kinds of businesses and small companies since 1990. Over 500 sold. Prior to my current career, I worked at Harris Corp in Electronic Engineering as an Engineering Specialist. I have worked on such projects as the space shuttle, F18 jet test electronics, B1B Bomber communication electronics, and several satellite systems.
I consider myself quite knowledgeable in most aspects of electronics, digital, RF, analog, software, computer systems, etc. I play a little at web page design.
My engineering background certainly does not hurt my ability to sell and understand most small businesses. Consider the 6 concrete inch flooring required for a machine shop and three phase electricity or special insulation required for a film warehouse. It seems that my engineering education has been quite helpful selling small businesses, restaurants, landscape companies, drafting service businesses, etc.
At 51 years of age, I have owned my own brokerage since 1990, and worked ten years at Harris Corp prior, that’s 27 years, two jobs. Prior to that, I worked at Digital Corp and Centronics as a technician. (one year each) Prior to that, I went to college on my GI BIll after three years in the Army, (age 17 to 20) working in the motor pool on jeeps and trucks.
I was a serious student in High School who dreamed of working in physics. I guess, I took the long road to find myself back at the beginning. My joke all my life was, I could do calculus, but can’t spell a lick! Go figure.
I say all this because, I discovered this web site seeking some answers to questions I have in this world, year 2006. It appears that I have discovered a simpler quicker way to understand current technologies.
Weirdly enough, I went into business sales to raise enough money to be free and work on some of my own engineering ideas. Well, here I am, older, maybe wiser.
Lasty, It's not all work, I sail, ride a motorcycle, fish, travel, and enjoy great food, football & cold beer. :-)

editI've been using Wikipedia as a reader for over a year now, and recently registered to fix/update a few articles. I think Wikipedia is one of the greatest things to happen to the Internet. I wouldn't use it as an EXCLUSIVE source on a topic, but it provides excellent background information on most topics, just as an encyclopedia is supposed to do. But Wikipedia is much more timely than a physical encyclopedia, and it delves deeply into topics that traditional encyclopedias ignore, like popular culture (Star Wars, the Simpsons, etc.).
As for me, I make my living as a poker writer/photographer, covering news and major poker tournaments (World Poker Tour, World Series of Poker). editHi Hi,
Actually I have been into Wikipedia for a while both as an unregistered contributor and Eqdoktor. As the name implies, I played Everquest for a while. I'm now retired from EQ (I gave up when raids took up to several hours per encounter) and MMOGs though. Eats too much time, much like surfing thru Wikipedia... :) I personally believe that Wikipedia cannot replace traditional Encyclopaedias. What it does excel though is its coverage of popular interests and topics which is unsurpassed by anything else out there. I'll be around. --Eqdoktor 19:21, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

editHello Wiki!
I heard about Wikipedia when researching stuff for my studies in Engineering, but was blown away by the wealth of information available, especially in history and literature, of which i'm a long time amateur student. editHello Wikipedians! I'm not much of a new user; I've been using wp for years and made the leap to editing a few months ago. I guess I kinda crept in under the radar. I'm an EE so my interests tend to lie in the scientific/computing/technical/science fiction fields. I've made fairly extensive modifications to the soldering article and though it's not done by any means, I think it's coming along nicely. I also created my first article for dancer/singer/actress Michelle Johnston. At the moment I'm mostly just finding my way around, patching up some vandalisms as I become aware of them, making an addition or two as they present themselves. editAnd another new chap. I started using WP because it came up at the top of more and more of my Yahoo searches, and I liked what I saw. Take a look at my first contrib to see what needled me into signing up. However, I'm now writing an article (draft growing on my talk page). I'll be needing some help on using images and maybe templates (though I'm trying to figure those out for myself). Also on the care, feeding, and classification of projects and taskforces, so when I finish this screed I'm off to look at being adopted or mentored.

My youngest chld turned 18 and is away now, so I have access to the computer. I have an Associate in Art Degree and am a LPN. I am not currently employeed, due to a back injury from work. I sing in the church choir and solo (acopelo). I've always wanted to learn to play a musical instrument, but grew up poor and couldn't afford lessons. I have a guitar, but its in the closet in a case and I can't remember the last time I saw it. I always thought I'd like to play piano too, but... Its hard for me to sing with the choir unless I make my own symbols, cause I can't read music either. HA! Bet you think I'm a real "oldie". NO! just grew up in the sticks. Would like to meet friends.
