BCSE

Xnuala, thanks for dropping by British_Centre_for_Science_Education. In fact the real Ian Lowe on the official BCSE website owns the words as his own, here: http://community.bcseweb.org.uk/viewtopic.php?p=3895#3895. Hence the "potentially libellous" issue does not exist, and the quote should be re-added to the page. Spubert 22:42, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Xnuala, I hope I have not been working at cross-purposes--I protected the page for one hour to remove unsourced material. Personally, I do not think an attempt to discredit individual members of the organisation belongs on the page for the group, and that drawing conclusions from comments elsewhere represents OR. If you think such a view is not objective, tell me. I hope to avoid further involvement with this. AFC News

WikiProject Articles for creation Backlog Elimination Drive News!

We are nine days away from the end of the drive, and it's been fantastic! Many, many, many days of backlog have been tackled, and over 1500 articles reviewed!

To start off, a HUGE THANKS to everyone who helped out with the coordination of the drive, and actually fighting the backlog in the drive itself. Everyone's done a great job helping out, no matter how many articles you've reviewed/

Remember to update your running total, on the drive page. This is the ONLY way that I will be able to give out awards appropriately.

Lastly, I will be giving out awards on August 16th. Anyone who could help me, that would be fantastic. Contact me on my talk page if you'd like to volunteer.

Great job, everyone! This Drive has been fantastic, and I'm sure that some members of the Project have definitely made friends by collaborating on the talk pages. Thanks,
GrooveDog.

Thanks

Thanks for the support on my RFA, I'm looking forward to it! --AW 15:06, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

You accumulated 229.33 total articles reviewed in the last month, which is a bit weird, because you reviewed .33 of an article, but that's fine! Great job, and thanks for your help! I will DEFINITELY be planning another drive sometime in the future, so keep posted and keep reviewing! GrooveDog (talk) (Review) 12:47, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

BUNBUN

This is not a test not everything in an encyclopedia should have a history for example if you create and use a new toy, its a new toy there is no history but it is for real and you are using it therefore you can add some information about it to an encyclopedia. one week ago there were no earthquake in Peru but now there is one and we can talk and write about it in wikipidia. I was not joking or making up a story about what I said. I created and used the word BunBun and now 3 other people who liked the idea are using that. Maybe in the future it will become as popular as Honey or baby. I am the inventor and I want to talk about that. If someone ells has a different idea can add it or edit it but please don't delete it. BunBun is for real.

WP:AFC Backlog Drive

WikiProject Articles for creation needs your help!
WikiProject Articles for creation has done a tremendous job in working at WP:AFC over the past 7½ months. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication! Together, we've made the submission process easier and more streamlined, developed tools to make the process go faster for reviewers, and cut the backlog down to a mere fraction of what it once was. Well done!

As you all are aware, however, our work is not quite yet done. The project still has 10 archive pages left to complete, which include over half a month's worth of submissions, many of which have not been completely reviewed. We need your help to finish looking over these neglected submissions so that we can finally remove the backlog notice from the page, and put an end to the more than two year old backlog that has been a thorn in our side for ages! Participants will receive an AFC Barnstar, so hurry up and help out while there's still work to be done! Make sure to sign in on the WikiProject's talk page so we know who is involved in what promises to be our final effort to complete this goal. Thank you for all your help!

Island Hopper article creation

According to this article, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pohnpei_International_Airport, "The only scheduled passenger services for Pohnpei are Continental Micronesia's "Island Hopper" service between Guam and Honolulu (three times weekly in each direction) and the weekly Guam-Chuuk-Pohnpei flight." This is contrary to your note "I don't see any evidence that this situation is limited to the Continental flight" in your decline of the article creation request. It appears Continental has a monopoly on this route. Would you reconsider your decline of the article creation?

The original request and decline at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_creation/2006-04-11#Island_hopper

This request for creation has been reviewed. The reviewer comments appear below the article text.
If your request was declined and you want to make changes and try again, copy and paste your article into a new submission and make your changes there.

This refers to a flight operated by Continental Airlines between Agana, Guam (GUM) and Honolulu, HI (HNL). The reason it is called the island hopper is because it makes several stops in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) and the Marshall Islands and for at least some of these islands, is the only scheduled commercial service to get around. The flight used to stop at Johnston Island, a US millitary installation but no longer does so. The flight is currently operated with Boeing 737s certified to fly over water, however in the past it was operated by a 727. Continental also operates a nonstop flight between Honolulu and Guam with a larger, two-aisle 767 jet. The term "island hopper" only refers to the smaller 737 that makes all the stops. Currently, the flight makes stops in Chuuk (Truk), Pohnpei, Kosrae, Kwajlein, and Majuro. Guam is a hub for Continental Micronesia

Should probably have a disambig at top if it's made to clarify between it and Island hopping during WW2. Jfingers88 22:19, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
The term is used for many similar transports involving Islands, such as planes, boats, and even a train. Graeme Bartlett 12:41, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

AfC news

Dear AfC participant,

  1. Msgj and Tnxman307 are organising the AfC challenge! It's a little competition to help improve some of the articles created through AfC and we are hoping that everyone will get involved. For level 1, you just need to bring a stub up to Start-class. Level 2 is improving a Start-class article to C-class. And so on. To get involved or for more information please see the competition page.
  2. Those of you who haven't reviewed an article recently might not have noticed the new process that was implemented this year. Reviewing articles is now more enjoyable than ever :) You might like to give it a try. All articles waiting for review are in Category:Pending Afc requests. (Please read the updated instructions.)
  3. Please consider adding {{AFC status}} to your userpage to keep track of the number of articles waiting for review. At the time of writing we are officially backlogged, so help is needed!
  4. There is currently a proposal to bring the Images for upload process under the umbrella of WikiProject Articles for creation. The rationale is that both processes are designed to allow unregistered users to take part more fully in Wikipedia, and partipants in each process can probably help each other.

If you no longer wish to receive messages from WikiProject Articles for creation, please remove your name from this list. Thank you.

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion, guidelines for use at WP:MINOR). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and all users will still be able to manually mark their edits as being minor in the usual way.

For well-established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 20:55, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Yossi Sheffi and ESI Group articles

Dear Xnuala,

I have a minor problem that I hope you can help me resolve. I wrote an article on Yossi Sheffi, which one administrator (JohnCD) looked over and suggested I move to the mainspace. After I did so, the article was reviewed by yet another administrator (Bearcat) who made a few helpful changes. Since the article has now been reviewed twice, is it possible for the "this is a new, unreviewed article" template to be removed from the top of the article page? If so, can you do it or tell me how I can do it? And should I restore the categories? It looks like they were removed by Bearcat when he reviewed the article. Thanks!

Also, I wrote an article on the ESI Group, which is posted at my sub-page (".../ESI Group"). I would feel better it it were reviewed before I move it to the mainspace. Would it be possible for you to review it and let me know if you think it's ready for the mainspace now or if there are changes that I should make to it?

Thank you very much!Michael Leeman (talk) 17:49, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

Dear Xnuala,
As you suggested in your June 18 message at my Talk page, I'm giving you this nudge to ask if you might be able to review my article on the ESI Group at this time. I would really appreciate it if you could. Also, per above, is it possible for you to remove the "this is a new, unreviewed article" tag from the top of my article on Yossi Sheffi? And should I/can I restore the categories to that article? Thank you very much!Michael Leeman (talk) 15:30, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

MSU Interview

Dear Xnuala,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar — Preceding unsigned comment added by 35.9.115.210 (talk) 21:54, 2 March 2012 (UTC)

Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. I have decided to put on a mini-contest within the November 2013 monthly disambiguation contest, on Saturday, November 23 (UTC). I will personally give a $20 Amazon.com gift card to the disambiguator who fixes the most links on that server-day (see the project page for details on scoring points). Since we are not geared up to do an automated count for that day, at 00:00, 23 November 2013 (UTC) (which is 7:00 PM on November 22, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the project page leaderboard. I will presume that anyone who is not already listed on the leaderboard has precisely nine edits. At 01:00, 24 November 2013 (UTC) (8:00 PM on November 23, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the leaderboard at that time (the extra hour is to give the board time to update), and I will determine from that who our winner is. I will credit links fixed by turning a WP:DABCONCEPT page into an article, but you'll have to let me know me that you did so. Here's to a fun contest. Note that according to the Daily Disambig, we currently have under 256,000 disambiguation links to be fixed. If everyone in the disambiguation link fixers category were to fix 500 links, we would have them all done - so aim high! Cheers! bd2412 T 02:21, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
