Hey Clovermoss, thanks for thinking of me. I remember starting a response but I guess I closed it before I finished, perhaps accidentally, then forgot about it.

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024

edit

Hello Usedtobecool,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

DIVINE, I marked it reviewed because it was at AFD, per NPP procedure. But, yes, I am against all COI/UPE editing and will continue to clean up the Nepal space one article at a time. Classicwiki, I don't think those articles have a good revision, not anywhere recent anyway. I usually just revert the latest obvious vandalism and leave the rest alone, as I don't have the energy to combat the caste warriors alone. There are far too many castes, clans and family names articles to care about. The IP was already taken care of when I looked. Best, — Usedtobecool ☎️ 14:39, 5 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Today's TFA, Felix M. Warburg House, was written by Vami_IV and Epicgenius, introduced: "This article is about another of the great houses that once lined Fifth Avenue in New York. Specifically, this is the mansion of Felix M. Warburg, a Jewish financier who ignored fears of anti-Semitic reprisal to his decided to build himself a big Gothic manor in the middle of New York City. Although the Warburgs no longer remain, their legacy does: the museum is now the home of the Jewish Museum (Manhattan) and the building largely survives as they left it. It's a beautiful building and I hope you will all enjoy it."! - in memory -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:09, 10 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Sending things to the paid email is a waste of time. See WP: Sockpuppet investigations/Mxcronin/Archive for my experience. I sent an email and it was almost a month before someone looked at it and that's only because it was part of an open SPI. At one time...maybe two or so years ago, GeneralNotability cleaned it up. His Arbcom candidate statement stated there were hundreds of tickets in both queues and the backlogs for both went back over a year. I am assuming it's probably back to the same condition. S0091 (talk) 22:01, 12 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

S0091, that's what I more or less figured, though it's nice to have it confirmed. Let's hope the new VRT thing that arbcom is trying to make happen works better. I reckon most people who have the functionary tools have no motivation to use it or never had it (having got it just to get it, got it a long time ago, got it through election to arbcom, or got it but being too afraid to use it too much in case they make a mistake and lose it). Complementarily, I reckon that most people who do the actual work don't have it, don't want it or wouldn't get it because people who do the work to make a difference will have handled edge cases and perhaps made some mistakes. — Usedtobecool ☎️ 12:04, 14 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
And of course, everything goes to arbcom or functionaries, and not nearly enough of them are being added for it all to work well on a volunteer basis. — Usedtobecool ☎️ 12:09, 14 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes, that and burnout for those who pick up the load not to mention people have lives. I hope there's enough interested folks to join the new VRT team. I think one of the issues with the current paid queue is not all CUs have access to VRT and I am not sure anyone knows who is doing what, if anything. Arbcom can at least provide some oversight to ensure adequate coverage. Good job btw unraveling Aanuarif. Your evidence left no doubt they were UPE. S0091 (talk) 14:58, 14 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. The thread is Donnond7 repeatedly violating BLP rules, despite multiple warnings.

Note that you are mentioned as one of the people warning the user; you are not otherwise a subject of the topic. Thank you. — rsjaffe 🗣️ 21:03, 31 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello Joyousmedia, I want to, and I probably could, but you'll have to explain further why you think you're blocked (what you were trying to do when it said you were blocked, for example) because you are not blocked, neither is the IP you edited from (although it is against our behavioural standards to edit the same topic with multiple accounts or logged in and out). If you were blocked, you would not have been able to make this post to my talk page either. Regards! — Usedtobecool ☎️ 09:04, 26 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

On 13 August, Bach's cantata was 300 years old, and the image one. The cantata is an extraordinary piece, using the chorale's text and famous melody more than others in the cycle. Help

Hi Usedtobecool, I updated article National Highway System (Nepal) according to the Statics of National Highway 2020/21 but someone with different IPs changing it and other articles linked with this page according to outdated information. I don't know what to do! This is the last IP 2404:7C00:49:317D:4847:D2A7:5C99:7A4A (talk · contribs) who changed the articles. Can you help please! -- 👤Raju💌 13:36, 19 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello Raju Babu, thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately, I do not have the time to get myself involved in any disputes right now. I would suggest you start a talk page section summarising what's been happening and inviting the IP to discuss it. You can leave talk page messages to the IP if they use one or a few IPs. And/or you can try to get their attention by reverting them and in making the revert, using the edit summary field to point to the discussion that you've started and inviting them to join. If after that it continues, you could ask the IP to be blocked or the page to be protected from IP editing. You could probably get the IP blocked after a couple more instances of edit warring even if you didn't do the due diligence, because it is easy to get an IP blocked, but I would not recommend it. It appears to me that they are working in good faith but simply mistaken. That is, if they are mistaken. It would help if the changes were supported by sourcing so a third party could verify who's right and who's wrong. Regards! — Usedtobecool ☎️ 15:18, 19 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Invitation to participate in a research

edit

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,
