RNLI Medals

edit

Hi Tony

Just seen your edit on RNLI page
I've been struggling to know what to do about the entry from RNLI Historian The first one was a complete cut and paste from the RNLI.(copyright contravention). But I thought the info maybe worthy of being included somehow, so I rewrote with a citation. He's just deleted some of the extra ref to his accompanying crew and bronze medals. and now you have moved it - but I'm not sure it should be included in the list of multiple medal winners??

He has also just added his original cut and paste to the RNLI Medals page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Awards_of_the_Royal_National_Lifeboat_Institution In the eyes of Wiki, its complete Copyright contravention. MartinOjsyork (talk) 09:18, 25 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Ojsyork - I've deleted it as non-multiple. Tony Holkham (Talk) 10:08, 25 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ojsyork - If there's a copyright violation, you should remove or rephrase it and explain in the edit summary. Tony Holkham (Talk) 10:14, 25 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Little and Broad Haven extra lifeboat

edit

...was listed in the LBES handbook as Littlehampton!

MartinOjsyork (talk) 15:57, 10 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Good thing you spotted that :o) Tony Holkham (Talk) 16:00, 10 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Updating Littlehampton, and the boats didn't tally.
So a quick message to Richie, who confirmed it was Little Haven, so both pages updated.
Hope you like some of the other welsh updates / former stations..

Images of Pembrokeshire buildings

edit

Hi Tony, I hope you are keeping well. I am slowly going through the Welsh Grade I buildings lists by principal area, seeing if I can do articles for the sites not yet covered. It's a slow process - Powys has a lot of uncovered churches! I've made more progress in Pembrokeshire where we are down to one, which I shall cover shortly. What is irritating is the missing images. There are eight in total; three for St Davids, one at Ffynone House, and a frustrating four around Penally. Geograph is also a blank. I know you're not resident in that part of the world now, but I was wondering if you knew of any Wikipedians who are? I could post on the Wales Project Talkpage, but that coverage is a bit wide. Pembrokeshire doesn't have a county project, like the English county project pages I've used a few times with some success. No worries if not, obviously, but I always find an architecture page without an image to be sadly incomplete. All the best. KJP1 (talk) 11:29, 28 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Not too bad, thanks; hope you are too. I only definitely know of one Pembrokeshire resident, Patrick, but I am sure there are others; a posting on WikiProject Wales might discover more. Best wishes. Tony Holkham (Talk) 11:39, 28 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Tony - that's very helpful. I shall try them and maybe the Wales board. One of the problems is the distances. Monmouthshire is a fairly compact county, with pretty good roads but it still took a while to get all the Grade I/II*s. Some of the other PAs are so much bigger, and the north/south links are not great. All the very best. KJP1 (talk) 14:35, 28 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
There's also a Wikipedians_in_Wales Category, though I'm not familiar with most of the names! Probably stating the obvious, but should you try asking on Talk:Pembrokeshire? :O) Tony Holkham (Talk) 15:02, 28 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
...and Category:WikiProject_Wales_participants. Tony Holkham (Talk) 15:12, 28 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I hardly recognise any of those names either! And there aren’t that many of them, given how many editors there are overall. I shall try your additional suggestions. All the best. KJP1 (talk) 16:38, 28 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, Tony, for pointing KJP1 in my direction, although I won't be of much help with the provision of photos, I am so sorry to say. However, having just looked at the Grade I listed buildings in Pembrokeshire page for the first time, I wish you well with your project, KJP1; it looks excellent and I am hopeful you'll soon find some local Wikipedians able to assist you, from the lists Tony identified above. All very best wishes!
With kind regards to you both;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(become old-fashioned!) 16:45, 28 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
All good wishes to you, Patrick! Tony Holkham (Talk) 19:04, 28 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Pdebee - No worries at all, and thanks for getting back. It took me over three years to get the set for Monmouthshire, which taught me the value of patience! All best wishes. KJP1 (talk) 18:08, 28 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Wrexham

edit

Tony - many thanks indeed for clearing Wrexham. I have to say doing church after church becomes a bit of a chore! So your help is greatly appreciated. But it'll be good to have all the Grade Is covered. I wonder how far off we are from that in relation to England? I suspect some way. KJP1 (talk) 14:21, 5 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

@KJP1 I will do more as soon as I can. All the best, T Tony Holkham (Talk) 14:38, 5 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Pembrokeshire Grade II*s

edit

I've done a doocot which, with some tweaks, could easily be repurposed to knock the other five off the list. The source about Roman dovecotes could be stronger, but I can't find where I once read that there are dovecotes at Caerwent. Which there are, coz I've seen them! All the best. KJP1 (talk) 06:21, 12 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for that, KJP1. I don't have much time at the moment, but I be on it as and when. T. Tony Holkham (Talk) 07:58, 12 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Deletions

edit

Hi Tony

Are you any good at setting up deletions? I'm struggling. I want to delete the old Runswick Bay Lifeboat Station page, (which currently redirects to Runswick Lifeboat Station)

All the RNLI info was placed on Runswick Lifeboat Station, with the remaining info placed on Runswick Bay Rescue Boat.

There's no need for Runswick Bay Lifeboat Station to exist. I believe all links to the old page have now been amended.

Martin Ojsyork (talk) 19:09, 12 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

I think I have sorted it! We'll see! Ojsyork (talk) 19:30, 12 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Martin, I have agreed delete on the nomination page. Cheers. Tony Holkham (Talk) 20:06, 12 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, Patrick, that's kind of you. I seem to have chosen this time of year to move to a new place, so find myself very busy, but another new adventure awaits, it seems. I wish you the best for 2025. Tony. Tony Holkham (Talk) 17:05, 24 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Happy Christmas

edit

@Tony Holkham Hi Tony Just wanted to say a personal Happy Christmas.

There's been times this year that I'd really had enough of the nonsense, and was ready to walk away from lifeboat pages, but your words of advice have helped enormously. Thankyou.

Martin Ojsyork (talk) 17:15, 24 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Ojsyork You're very kind, Martin. I just hope I've helped a little. You have a happy Christmas and New Year, too. All the best, Tony. Tony Holkham (Talk) 17:20, 24 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
