The mastermind behind the creation of the IVU was Dr G. Danjou from Nice. He wrote this book [1]. There is a lot of information about him here but not his full first name and no birth or death dates [2]. If we can find his first name I believe he would qualify for an article. Thanks, that is definitely him. The only source in English I have seen using his full name in connection with the IVU is [3]. This might be wrong but the only public birth document I could find online was Danjou, Georges Edouard Registration number: 897, Date of birth: 1877-08-12, Place of birth: Granville (Manche), Place of residence: Pierrefitte-en-Auge (Calvados) [4]. When searching for Georges Edouard Danjou there is virtually nothing else. The 1877 birth date sounds about right however. Psychologist Guy (talk) 14:43, 8 November 2024 (UTC)

Gottfried Johannes Müller (RIP: 1914-2009)

Might you be interested in *completing* an article about a truly magnificent vegetarian innovator, Gottfried Johannes Müller (RIP: 1914-2009), who (after his war career) founded a chain of vegetarian orphanages that extend internationally? From a vegetarian perspective, so much more could be said. His "claim to fame" is the report that he designed the Kurdish flag, but can that be documented? The Gottfried Müller article has already been deleted twice from Wikipedia, I remember reading the afd discussions. Your draft was also declined 4 times [8]. The page name was then changed to Gottfried Johannes Müller and that was also declined in draft [9]. After this you asked another user to create it [10]. The confusing thing here is that the wrong photograph was used in the drafts, it was a photograph of Gottfried Müller (politician). The politician is obviously not the philanthropist. More confusing the Gottfried Müller article is now a disambiguation page and the original afd discussions cannot be found. A scan through the internet shows only one reference that mentions him in detail [11] which happens to be the only source on his Wikipedia article. We also have an article for Salem International with hardly any sourcing. These are low-level traffic articles but if an admin was to look through the history of all this and the lack of reliable sources it may be deleted. I appreciate your attempts for many years to get an article created for this individual but not everyone involved with vegetarianism is notable. If the Gottfried Müller (philanthropist) article was taken to a current afd it would likely be deleted. There is no point in creating poorly sourced articles that risk deletion. Animals' Friend Society

An article would qualify for the Animals' Friend Society, it was formed by Lewis Gompertz originally but revived many years later by Ernest Bell and others. See my recent edits at Cats Protection which was originally part of the Animals' Friend Society. Mrs Avery was the first Honorary Secretary. I would be interested to find her full name. Health Science

Might you have an interest in developing an article about the ANHS publication, 'Health Science'? Several individuals have asked me about that, but I don't feel up to providing additional research into it (though I already have some text on it). I would want the article to reflect objectivity and fairness in what is said about the publishing organization and the 'house organ' itself (and its subscribership).

The organization which publishes Health Science is the National Health Association (NHA). This association, previously known as the American Natural Hygiene Society (ANHS) (formerly in Tampa, Florida, has been integral in promoting the Natural Hygiene health philosophy. The NHA continues to publish Health Science, a journal that covers topics related to health, nutrition, and wellness, particularly in alignment with principles of natural hygiene. This publication, along with other resources, aims to support a health-focused lifestyle, emphasizing plant-based diets, fasting, and holistic living.

The NHA is based in Youngstown, Ohio, and has continued to serve as a key advocate for the health principles established by figures like Dr. Herbert Shelton, who was pivotal in the Natural Hygiene Movement. Improvements on the "animals" section in the philosophical pessimism article

Hi, Throughthemind! I hope you are doing okay.

Could you possibly spare some time to help us on the "animals" section in the "philosophical pessimism" article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosophical_pessimism#Animals)?

It seems to me that this subsection is currently too long, and we do not have much text in it concerning specifically pessimistic philosophers who addressed this topic (as Dawkins, Darwin and Becker are not philosophers in the strict sense of the word, and I want to avoid "original research"). If possible, could you help us with that section or give us suggestions on how to improve it? My goal is to eventually (re)nominate the "philosophical pessimism" article as a "good article".

Or do you think that, perhaps, the section is already "fine" the way it is -- such that it complies with the GA criteria?

Update: I now added Leopardi -- I think that 4 pessimist philosophers on the "Animals" section should be enough. And I think that "sentiocentric antinatalism" flows nicely with the previous subsection, namely, "anthropocentric antinatalism" -- thus I chose to keep it but added links to wikitionary such that the philosophical jargon becomes comprehensible to users who are not used to such technical terms. Lady Cory

I plan on creating a Wikipedia article for Lady Cory, she was heavily involved in animal welfare. The problem is that there are more than one.

• Gertrude Box aka Lady Cory married to Sir (Herbert George) Donald Cory, 2nd Bt. (1879-1935) [13]
• Jane Anne Gordon Lethbridge aka Lady Cory married to Clifford Cory. Clifford Cory was an animal welfare supporter himself.
• Elizabeth Cansh Walker aka Lady Cory [14] died 1956 [15]. She was the 2nd wife of Herbert Cory.

Based on this newspaper article, that seems correct: "There was pandemonium at the annual meeting a few days ago. Lady Annie Cory (wife of Sir Clifford Cory, Bart.) fought for a hearing, but was howled down. Yes that is correct, thanks for the help. I have found many sources on her. I will try and get the article completed in a few days. Unfortunately I cannot find a photograph of Benjamin Bryan so far. I will drop some emails. There is a photograph of Frederick Edward Pirkis (1835-1910), he was the chairman of the National Canine Defence League and a friend of Bryan's, it is found on Catherine Louisa Pirkis article near the bottom.

Another person I cannot find a photograph of is Rev Joseph Stratton (1839–1917), he has a profile on the Henry Salt website [16], and wrote an anti-vivisection book [17] Psychologist Guy (talk) 00:59, 13 December 2024 (UTC)

These two volumes [19] contain dozens of portraits of people involved in animal welfare in Britain in the late 19th-century. The problem is that only two issues have been uploaded online. If we had the other volumes, I suspect we would have access to many other photographs of forgotten animal welfare and rights pioneers. So far nobody in the world has uploaded the other early volumes. When the National Council for Animals' Welfare took over the magazine in 1930 they cut the pages down to only a few pages and didn't publish any portraits, those magazines are not very good I have read them.
